Track Clip Automation parameter Touch keeps "greying out" in X3

I've been trying to record track automation with the Touch parameter set, but each time I enable write on the track and start playback to record automation, the Touch parameter "greys out".  The results is that the touch feature does not work and I have to reposition the fader manually.  Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
