Track Folder Order...

Hello,

I made a template with 8 track folders.  I noticed that no matter where I position them in the track view, they ALWAYS go back to the original order I made the folders.  I see this as big flaw!   Are there any fixes?

Thanks,
Adam

    Hi Adam-

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'd expect them to be in the original order -- the same as when you arranged and saved them in the template. Are you saying that when you open a template the track folder order isn't the same as when you saved it?

I don't recall seeing that, but I'll check tomorrow unless someone comes back in the meantime.

    Hi Adam-

You saved a template with 8 empty folders? There must be a point, but I'm missing it.

    And what "others" move "where"?

My guess #1 is it defines the order of the folders according to the amount of tracks in each folder. Just guessing, based on your description.

Guess #2 is: Every time you insert a track, the track gets the highest track number in the track view, and  so the folder, in which the last track is, is moved to the bottom.

If that's how it is, it's idiotic, of course. They should keep the order in which you have them saved.

    Hello!

Well not all of them were empty.  I have some setup for bounced tracks, and just other things I do in there.   Some have some midi and some have some audio... but there seems to be NO pattern here.  It's just random.  It's not even how many tracks are in the folders because some of the empty ones fall in the middle!  This is soooo bizarre!

Adam, I don't use templates, what I've done is to save a couple of projects and name them Base EZD Pop&Rock and Base EZD Nashville. Each has the appropriate drum kits in them in a track folder called EZD Drums, a MIDI folder, a Guitar folder and a Vocals folder. There are five or so busses with effects applied to them, such as Guitar Delay,  Reverb, Chorus etc that are routed to a Main Mix buss that goes to my soundcard (the Main Mix buss has a multi-band EQ in the fx bin). So when I'm starting a new project I fire up one of the Base projects then Save As. The folders stay exactley where they were when the projects were created and it saves me hours of fiddling around setting it up.

Thanks for that but its not only templates... its existing projects too... its anything!  Version 8.5.2 has some wierd sorting cuz this happened only once I upgraded, and its really pissing me off :(

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone can do a small favor who is using 8.5.2.222.   Can you make a new project from using the Blank (no tracks) template,  create 2 folders (leave the names alone) and 1 audio track...   then put the audio track into folder 2, save the project, close it and then reopen?

Is it now in Folder 1?

    Thank you,
    Adam

#3.  then put the audio track into folder 2.
    #4.  save the project.
#5.  Open the project.. did the audio file somehow move to folder 1?

    Hi Adam-

Yes, I can repro this, but only if I don't name the folders before saving the project. If I name the folders before saving, the audio track comes back in the folder I saved it to.

I can't say this behavior really bothers me, but since it does you and it's easily replicated, I'd say bug it up.

    -Susan

P.S. My guess is that names like "Folder 1" and "Track 1" are really just placeholders, so once you give them "real" names, they'll work as expected.

Thank you GWP99!   Hey Susan,  you are right, if you change the folder name it DOES keep with that folder.. BUT it does move location.   For instance, if you put the audio track in the folder on the bottom, and leave the top one empty... once you re-open the file, the folder moves to the top.   bothers me :(

I hear you, Adam, but frankly there are so many workarounds for this already that I'm not sure how high a priority this will get and how much support you'll get here for fixing this at the expense of addressing other bugs. Post back if you get a bug ID from CW by all means, though.

and it really is effecting me!

    Strange, if true!

I can't think why this would be worth downgrading, since there are so many workarounds/options, but do what you have to do, by all means.

    Hi Susan,

I guess you can call it OCD lol.  I like my MIDI Inputs at the top.. then the softsynth outputs.   Then a vocals folder, then an "IN PROGRESS" folder for ideas and stuff....    I like it in that order.

    What would be a workaround?

Just as I described in my first post, set up a project with all the folders placed and named as you want them then Save As and name it Adam. It will then appear at the top of the list of projects (unless you have a tune called Aardvark or Aaron). Each time you want to start a new project, click on Adam and everything will be as you want it. Just Save As New Project and you're off and running.

Bluesmeister... it doesnt matter if it is a template or a project that I do a "save as" on.

papa2005, yes im workin on it! LOL

John/Susan, that doesnt work.  It doesnt even matter if you NAME them.  Yes they stay in the right folder but the FOLDERS dont stay in order!  Seems like they get sorted by the amount of tracks in the folder.

Bluesmeister... it doesnt matter if it is a template or a project that I do a "save as" on.
With my base projects, the order of my track folders is:
    EZ Drummer
    MIDI
    Guitar
    Vocals

The number of tracks in each folder varies, the most being in Guitar, with nine tracks. My Track Folders stay in that order, irresepective of whether it's a new project or an older one. I can't understand why your's are migrating willy nilly. I'll try removing all the folder names then Save As Adam to see if the folders remain in their original order. Don't touch that dial!
