Track Layers Question

When one clip is dragged on top of another clip, is it possible to make only the top or visible layer playback?  Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a thing called "isolating" (by clip or region). It mutes all other layers where they intersect the clip or region you want to isolate. It is an operation you would perform on the clip or region you want to hear, using CTRL- with the mute tool. I've found it is buggy in some respects (for MIDI notes), and Cakewalk agrees. And I'm not entirely sure how to un-isolate.

But as far as automatically muting all layers below the top, I don't think so.

I have not tried it in XI but in other versions you would "SELECT THE CLIP" (make it black) right click and choose "CLIP PROPERTIES" then "MUTE CLIP".

Thanks for the replies.  That's one nice Pro Tools feature, when you drag one clip onto another clip, only the top layer plays.

Yes, this can be done. Choose Options > Drag and Drop Options from the Track view menu. Then choose the Replace Old with New option.

Now when you drag clips on top of each other, only the top clips will play.

Hey garrigus, much appreciated, I knew there had to be a way to do it with X1.
