    1. No, I can't understand most of the lyrics..
    2. The production seems ok.. Maybe a different bass sound...
    3. I'm not sure what "hip Hop" is either, but I'm sure jamesyoyo does, and will tell us...

I thought this was interesting and imaginative...

Well, I'm not sure but I think LJ has been up to no good, and now has to pay the price...

You've got the gist of it, Notnat, but did you understand exactly what LJ did that caused him all the grief?

I’m guessing LJ, somewhere along the line, took a wrong turn, and fell in with the wrong crowd… He lost sight of his core values until the line between right and wrong became blurred… Or maybe he was just too dumb to stay out of trouble…
    Just a guess…

You are right, but there is a very specific activity LJ had been engaged in, and here's hoping the accent and production do not prevent the listeners from understanding what exactly that activity was :)

It's a catchy tune, I got most of the jist of it, but not sure what he's doing on the corner. I do know he has a beamer and a gun...and he cries for his mama when he got laid out on the pavement. I'll guess he's a crack dealer that can't seem to sell crack without getting caught...? Nice beat too...and I like the chorus.

No its not Hip Hop, mostly because of the way you are slinging the rhyme and the way the beat flows. This more like singing and hip hop is more about rapping. The accent is interesting, though it makes it a bit hard to take seriously as hip hop (at least today's hip hop) is somewhat heavy and violent. This seems almost spoof like.

The other real issue is hip hop is about innovating new and cool synth sounds for the melodic hook. You have used rather dated stock sounding patches. You do use some hip hop elements, like rests and scratches, but again those are somewhat 'old school'. If thats what you were going for, then, well you nailed it

Its a good attempt, and the production value was not bad. Its a little less punchy than I would like mix wise... you may have too long an echo which is muddying the sound a bit.

    Cheers

--- Thank you, man! You've got it right. The line goes: "you can find him on the corner selling funny tasting pills, and today he has the honor of acquaintance with police." Will post the lyrics at the song site, and, hopefully, will have this mastered so that the vocal is better defined.

Foxwolfen, much appreciate the detailed review! Here's hoping professional mastering would get this song a nice punchy sound.

I like the song. Very good lyrics, I like the fact that you have a bridge before the chorus, it's very unusual in hiphop/rap. Also I would rather call this reality rap or hardcore rap than hip hop since hip hop (at least by hip hopers) is defined as the culture and the four elements (MC, DJ, graffiti, breakin'). I prefer rap to hiphop

The drums could go up a bit. Also I'd try to solve the 'punch' in mixing rather than hoping it will be solved in mastering. Maybe you could try some medium attack compressor on kick and snare to enhance transients? Also hip hop usually has a little brighter snare while this has some rock-sound to it in my ears, a little boost around 5-8 kHz might sound good or a layering with a 909. I also think Folxwolfen is right about the echo. The kick is a little rock here to and could use som 60-85 hz boost or maybe layering with an 808 to get the hiphop/rap feel. The beat is good.

In my opinion something needs to happen in the chorus. I don't know what though but introduce some movement or new sound (double speed on the hh or adding some percussion maybe and/or some synth lead/beep-sound or tape strings perhaps would sound good?).

The dist on the vocals works for me (reminds me somewhat on Machine Head's great cover on Ice-T's classic 'Colors'), I also like it that the last verse is cleaner again adding interest to the song. I think you can hear what you are saying in the lyrics but you do have pretty much of an accent (that don't have to be a problem though as long as you keep it somewhat tamed but then again most people don't have problems with for example patois ), it would be interesting to hear the song in russian. I also like the human beatbox break after the sesond chorus and the 80's hit after the first, they are somewhat oldschool but sound cool in the song.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.
