[Track] Lost Shadow

I just posted in the songs forum, but I decided to post here too since there's more
electronica artists here to give feedback. If you get a chance please give it a listen.
It's my first track for 2007. Trying to get "warmed up". But before I do that...I'm going to sleep.

Title = "Lost Shadow"

thanks,

    sum,

very nice track. It is good to see some vocal stuff showing up, too.

Pretty bright mix, which is good. Plenty of definition between sounds.

the longer I listened to it the more excellent I found it. It sounds ready for release and ore accesible than much electronica. Sounded like the Cure, Depeche and others of that ilk with a hint of industrial thrown in to give it some edge (and I'm the one who hates all that labeling!).

Let's hear more once you wake up for the year.

Hey thanks for listening AT. I'm really glad you liked it.

I hate that labeling stuff also.
Each time I have to select a genre at soundclick I think "hmmm...Electronic?? Industrial?? Pop??".
Where's the "It just is what it is...man!!" category!!!

But seriously...have any opinions on a better genre?
I am a fan of industrial music. Most of my early attempts at music were more industrial-ish (that's probably not a word).
But for this project I decided to tone down the voice distortion and just see what comes out.

    thanks again for listening.

Yep this is a good song. The opening i thought was really good, sort of happy and sinister sounding at the same time. It's obvious who your influences are, but there was a certain individuleness about this. My fave part is the chorus, great melody. I also liked the minimilistic arrangement. I try to be minimilist, but i always end up piling the tracks on. Your voice is good, but it did'nt sit well in the mix to my ears, seemed a bit too forward. That's probably a personal taste cthing though. Overall, loved it. I reckon Fernando and Kev would dig it too.

Yeah, I agree this was really well done. It is nice to hear something with vocals here, and you did a good job with them. This song had some retro elements while still sounding really modern which is not easy to do! I don't think it is really industrial, but more electronica/pop.

That is a good way to start 2007!

Thank you for the great comments. I appreciate them.
It's great being able to post and get some feedback and tips almost immediately.
It's a huge help. This mixing thing is quite a beast. How much volume, compression, EQ, reverb etc.
In the end I'm just trying to use a guess within reason. Any recommended good books/courses?

    thanks,
    sum01

Gosh there's some great stuff here. Have I been sleeping that long? This is a very good track - kudos for the songwriting ability, there is no doubt about talent there. I don't think you need to cloud your voice over with reverb, I'd rather hear something drier (but keep the delay fx on the vocals, that was cool). Also try voice doubling on the chorus (record a second version; if you're accurate enough you'll be off just enough to thicken it), and pan each slightly to either side of center. The ending came as a surprise, but a welcome one. Excellent 'stop the record' effect - loved it. With the vocals not quite sitting right, I think you'd agree this track is not quite ready for prime-time. But fix that and master this sucker and I'm burnin' it to a CD for my Jeep.

Keep up the good work, very enjoyable ..

Thanks for the excellent comments and for the tips. I think I have an extra voice track. I'll try doubling the chorus and see how it sounds and toning down the reverb. I need to get better at the production/mixing end of things. There's alot to know.

    thanks

I thought this was a pretty sic jam, piano thoughout the whole song was tight and vocals went clean and smooth with production.
    good work!!!

Thanks also for the comments. Also, I got to check out makaniks on soundclick which is very cool.
The percussion is nice and up front, but still easy to listen to. I think it evolves really well.
