Track Manager Issues SONAR X1

I am having a problem with Track Manager in that it does not show up when I am in Console View. I go to Strips-Track Manager-click it...nothing happens.

I can go to the Track Manager in Track View...Tracks-Track Manager...and it appears. I can remove the check in a main folder consisting of about five midi tracks and all of the tracks disappear from the Track View and the check marks are all removed from the midi tracks in the folder.

When I close Track Manager and go back to look I notice that the main folder still has no check but all of the midi tracks somehow are checked again. Even though they don't show up in Track View (this is what I want).

I also see that they still appear in Console View and the point of what I am trying to do is to remove them from the Console view and Track view without deleting. I saw there was a hide...what is the difference between the Hide and the Track Manager?

Is this working normally? It sucks if it is. Is something not checked in my settings?

Why does the Track Manager option in Console view not work?

Hope I explained this good enough and someone can point me in the right direction.

In Cakewalk's effort to make everything take ever more clicks they have made the Track Manager so that you have to click on a console track EVERY TIME YOU OPEN the Track Manager or it will not work properly.

I spoke to Cakewalk Support.

This is an issue that not many have reported but it is still an issue for me but now with a work-around.It will not work the way it is supposed to because of the version of Sonar that the song was created in.

...here is the results of the conversation.

Problem/Questions: Unable to launch the Track Manager from within the Console View from either the [H] hotkey or the Strips | Track Manager menu. This dialog opens properly from the Track View.

Solutions: This issue only occurs in projects created in SONAR 8.5 or before; the Track Manager dialog opens as expected in projects created in SONAR X1. As a workaround, you can easily hide your tracks by selecting them in the Console View and pressing CTRL + H.

This workaround does not work.  I select them in Console view and do Ctrl-H and they get hidden in the TRACK VEW.

Yes I have opened the song in X1 and done more work on it. Therefore I have saved it in X1. It is an issue because it was originally created in 8.5 according to tech support.

Yes but I need the track and console views to have different tracks showing.

I think you'll find that's what he means. Uncheck the "Keep track/console visibility states in sync" option and then you can have different tracks showing in both. That's how it works here.

OK but I have to click on a track every time I open the track manager for it to work properly.

Have you tried..... hiding the tracks in Track Manager with the option to sync checked.

Then... uncheck the sync option and make them visible again in Track view?

It's a bit of a pain I know, but if it works..........

If you are addressing me then yes I have tried what you suggested. The Track Manager still does not show up in the console view. The option is there but it does not activate when I click on the option.

So much for backward compatibility. This is only happening in Project/Songs I created in earlier version Sonar 8.5.

Support had me check registry settings and all was well there...then we opened a current song created in X1 and I had no issues. It has something to do with the upgrade path according to support. I don't know...I followed the same directions for upgrading that we all did and changed nothing during the install.

What I meant was, from Track View, hide the tracks that you want to see in console view, with option to sync checked.

Then in Track View again(!) uncheck the sync option & make the tracks you want to see visible in Track view visible.

Don't go into Console view until you've done the above steps.

Re:Track Manager Issues SONAR X1 2011/11/06 16:07:38 (permalink)

After trying Jonesey's suggestion I found an issue/bug between the Track Manager and the SCREEN-SET views which may tie in to the original problem.

Follow this...using the "SCREEN-SET" buttons for changing views.

Button 1 -Is set for my "TRACK VIEW" I click 1 and use Hot-key "H" and the Track Manager shows...I can open and close and it shows every time. I can work on any track in this view and whenever I use the "H" Track Manager shows every time.

Button 2-Is set for my "CONSOLE VIEW" I click 2 and the console shows, Very important...I do not click on anything else other than using the Hot-key "H" to show the Track manager...it pops up and  I can open and close it as often as I want. BUT-- If I then work in any area of the console view (change volume etc.) and then use the "H" key or the drop down menu for Track Manager the track manager does not show.

No matter where I click in console view to try to re-enable it will not work. The only way to get the Track Manager to show up again is if I go to SCREEN-SET 1 and then back to SCREEN-SET 2 and as long as I do not click on anything it will show using the hotkey...it will not show at any time using the drop down.

ALSO-Again using SCREEN-SET Numbers...when using Track Manager in console view,  if I hide tracks (remove check) and close Track Manager they are still in the console.  But...if I go to Track View and back to console they are then gone.

This is quite aggravating...am I the only one having these issues?

You may have "Locked" your screenset which will keep bringing the hidden tracks back into view. Make sure the screensets are not locked.

I've had X1 for a little over a week and just discovered this same track manager issue in the console view. By trial and error I was able to narrow it down to the TTS-1 synth. If I delete the synth from the rack, the track manager functionality returns and operates as it should.

Haven't figured out what to do about it yet, but thought I'd pass on the info in case it helps someone.

UPDATE (to #19 above): After further experimentation, I found it's having synth tracks in a folder that's causing the issue (for me). I opened one of the projects where I was having this issue, removed all synths from the common folder I had them in and the functionality of the CV track manager returned.

Sidenote: I have frequent issues with Track Manager when using Folders. Many times, it's as simple as selecting a track in a folder, but not the folder, and you'll get all the tracks in the folder. It's very unpredictable, so I have to check and uncheck Folders and tracks almost every time to get the tracks I want to show up only. It's frustrating, but doesn't surprise me.

I find that in Console View and selecting 'H' - if I choose to hide or unhide a track or a selection of tracks, it doesn't 'take' first time.

The workaround is to go back into track view, go into Track Manager, don't make any changes, exit Track Manager and go back into Console View, it works as expected then.

And that's a good time to unlock/lock your current screenset.

There is still a lot of flakeyness regarding Track Manager/Screensets, on my system

Other users are fine with it - it's something really obscure
It always seems as though it doesn't want Console View to have the focus - I must ALWAYS do my track management in Track View before attempting to touch CV and, sometimes when switching to a locked screenset, I don't get the result I was expecting - in fact it's not unusual for ALL tracks & busses to be displayed in the recalled screenset.

Yeah, I'm hoping this thing will be fixed in the next release. It's frustrating, no doubt. I'm concerned that Cakewalk didn't catch this one. The Track Manager is a problem child on all three disparate, but common-type systems I've tested Sonar X2 on.

After trying PJFARR's suggestion....on songs created in an older version of Sonar that you may have used folders for synths or audio...to remove all synths and audio tracks from any folders and then delete the folder..WORKED FOR ME!  I now am able to go into Console view and go to "STRIPS" TRACK MANAGER" and the Track Manager now shows up and works normally. Sweet!

I hope this works for others.
