Track Pane Show/Hide All

Is there a way to hide or show all the tracks at once in the the track pane?  Sometimes I want to focus on one track for a moment, then go back to seeing all the tracks.  I know I can do this through adding/dropping tracks from the track pane, but that's tedious.

Thanks,
Steve

Do you use track folders? If not, you create one and put all the tracks you want to hide in one folder. Then you could press the m key on your keyboard to open the track manager where you could view/hide them by changing the track folder's view/hide status. Hiding a folder will hide all the tracks in that folder.

Sometimes just collapsing track folders can have the same effect as hiding the tracks.

The track manager might be your best option since you can change the view/hide status of multiple tracks at one time.

Highlight the track and select show/hide all tracks button in the sonar toolbar. Or use the hide tracks not selected button in the toolbar.
Thats 2 ways to do it

Very easy just hit the max button on the track header. That track will occupy the full track view pane. Hit the min button to go back to see all the tracks.

To view all tracks at once, just hit 'a' Follow it with an 'f' to fit to screen.

To view a SELECTED track, hit 'h'

Also, if you're using Track Folders, minimise just ONE of them. Then right click it and select "lock height"

Then when you fit to screen ('f'), your folders will stay minimised (which is how I like them to be)

(I think you gave me that tip Jose!)

Could be, since I use that all the time :-)

Great advice as always Bristol (the others as well).

    Take care!

Sorry I put this out and then went away--I was sick for a few days.  Thanks to everyone for their responses (I learned some new things), but I realize I communicated my question badly.  I neglected to mention that I was talking about in the piano roll view...

I'm looking to be able to toggle hide/show for all the tracks here.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hey Steve,

There are several ways you can do this in PRV.

Probably the easiest way would be to use "T" and select/deselect tracks by dragging the mouse (or combining it with the "Ctrl" or "Shift" keys) to Show/Hide them.  The other way is to click on the color boxes shown in your screenshot.  For example, if you don't want to see the Piccolo track, you can click the yellow square and it will hide that track.  Click it again to show it once more.

Another cool thing you can do lock tracks by clicking on the blank squares found next to the color squares.  That way you can edit one track without editing locked tracks.

    Hey Steve,

There are several ways you can do this in PRV.

Thanks Jose, I appreciate the info.  The only problem is that constantly re-selecting tracks from the pick list is very tedious, particularly if you've got a non-contiguous grouping.

Say I want to see some woodwinds with some brass, and so I go through and pick them.  Now I listen to this group together, and I realize that one of the brass instruments is off.  For just a moment, I want to just look at that one track, then switch back to seeing all of them.

To do this, I can go to the track picker and re-select all of them, and then they're all back showing, or I can go through and click the show/hide square one by one.

Either way is really nasty when dealing with a bunch of tracks.  What I'd love to have is the ability to select multiple tracks in the track pane itself, and be able to do a ctrl click on the selected tracks' attributes (e.g. show/hide or lock) and have it affect all the selected at the same time.

Barring that, just being able to show/hide all would be much easier, since I could then hide all the tracks, click to select the one, do what I need to with it, then reshow all the tracks.

Maybe I'm looking for a new feature :)

    Thanks again for your help,
    Steve

There's always a better way to get things done, and I agree with you that Cakewalk can further improve this in Sonar.

Don't be afraid of submitting a feature request: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/FeatureRequest.aspx

In the mean time, what you're doing is basically what I do.  Select/Unselect tracks from the Track picker (or whatever it is called).

    Take care!

Yes, it's a shame the tracks pane on the right hand part of the prv isn't organised into a hierarchy with folders, similar (or the same) as track view.

That would help enormously when editing complex MIDI passages.

    That's a great idea--better than what I was thinking.
