I use them alot for all my live and studio recordings
I like to have all acoustic guitar tracks in one, electric guitars, drums broken down, Lead Vox and BU Vox, etc
It does a few things for me
Keeps the Track View clean and organized and keeps things together like when Im working say acoustic guitars. I might have 6 to 8 tracks and thats all that will be open in track view at that time.
It makes soloing, muting a breeze as well on particular instrument (Can mute like items all at once leaving others when mixing or ???)
Same as above for recording live drum tracks. Hit Arm on the track and get all mics armed up at once on the drums and not affect anything else.
It organizes Console View at the same time so when there are 16 or more tracks, it groups them together like they are in the folders-so no hunting
As for working on certain parts of songs, it will let me select a clip with in the track folder which will highlight a section of time that I can do Loops, Punch In/Outs, etc...
Just makes it so much easier if ya ask me-I like organization
It will all depend on what and how your using it for recording and mixing as to how you like yours setup
