I think it jams. Great song. To me, the backing vox could be a little "fuller". But everything else was great. Pretty good mix, and I dig the album concept too. Pretty cool.

Hey! Cool stuff! For some reason it almost sounds like there's a flanger on the open hi-hat But great songs. Good vocals and a nice mix.

project m - yes that was the intended effect for the first 45 seconds... i placed a subtle amount of sonitus modulator on the hi-hat mic, but not on the overheads..controlled the effect with an envelope . i liked it ...good eye, er...ear... i still have to sing the other 5.. one at a time...

    Hey,

This is a very cool song!  Well written, nice thick, crunchy guitar tones, great playing and excellent vocals with a good modern sounding rock mix.

    Really well done, good stuff!

Hah! That's the craziest idea I've ever heard of! But it sounded really cool. Well done! I might steal that one from time to time. I've heard it done on a snare many times but never on the hi-hat - that I'm aware of. Excellent way to add something without throwing it in peoples face.

this sounds really good, the guitars have a nice crunch without being gained to death; adding to the clarity and openness of the mix. vocals sound good too, particularly in the harmony parts. the RME units are one of the most regarded soundcards, if i ever need more than 2 inputs they'd be on my wishlist! very cool dude!

thanks for the great feedback fellas.. mgh - you're right about RME. I got the smaller unit, the 400. I was nervous about buying it, but now i wish i would have dropped another 300 bucks for the Fireface 800, which has double the xlr inputs...$1300 for the FF400, $1600 for the FF800 model. Cant complain though. I love the converters. matter of fact, you will really raise an eyebrow here. the electric guitar was miked with a sm57, went straight to the fireface. used its preamp. The bass was direct into channel 2. everything else was done inside of sonar. but the vocals, with the wide dynamics, i ran it through an ART TPS II pre, then chained to my DBX 166xl compressor, then into the FF. I am impressed with the unit. thanks again

I like the song. The mix seems a bit too bottom heavy, but if that is what you want it's there. The drums seems to be in a different space. They have too deep a verb IMO. It makes them sound like they are in a different room (to me).

Nice production.  I've heard good things about the preamps in those units.  Do you have the guitars direct in or are you mic'ing an amp.  What's the vocal mic?

bapu, could be the stereo widening i used. i notice it too, that was in mastering. but i knew i would have to tweak it more... daryl -i mic an amp into the fireface. Some Sterling Audio condenser...$300 it really picks up lip smacks and dry mouth...

Glad I dropped in to listen. Nice clean mix.

Question: what are you using to get the crunchy guitar tone?  (amp miked, direct, amp sim..... just wondering)

That is sweet tone if I ever heard sweet tone.

    nice!

Hacker - A Fender Supersonic amp, turned a few knobs, miked it with a Shure 57, and then into the fireface, thats it... no pedals. ibanez 7 string, monster guitar cable. You liked the sound i got out of the line 6 a while back, but it was too thin. I love the beefy tone of tube. I didnt have it cranked either. had it below one.
