Train To Belair-2014 Crazy Psychedelic Sonic Art

Ok...I've finally got around to start fixing my Honours project composition's...this track really screwed me over...basically it's a recording of a train ride from Adelaide in South Australia to Belair National Park...also in South Australia...this has been sped up using Reapers Vari-Speed...then fed into various filters and delays...you are then spat out onto the platform...literally, the train leaves and you are left with a beautiful silence...just a few birds...finally you venture into the national park...here I've used a granular synth, and using nothing more than the a field recording created a church style organ, I've then taken a fly sample, also something I recorded on the day and put that into the granular synth...this then played via the Yourock guitar...the track ends on a Musique concrète bed.

What made this track so difficult to get it to this point last year was I was still learning how to get the best out of the Sonar...Sonar is a complete and comprehensive mixing environment...this is something that needs to be understood...with the addition of the Pro Channel...even more so...It now has it's own sound...just like a studio or desk from the 60's and 70's.  On top of that, I brought the Waves H-Comp and Kramer Master Tape, and it has taken me a year to master these two effects...and here's a tip to the newbies...learning a particular compressor...even virtual ones can take a long time to master...they're just like musical instruments...I've finally...finally got the H-Comp...how Sonar interacts as a mixing environment and myriad of other things...it's only taken a year and half of intense practice and research...anyway enjoy.

I feel badly saying this because it's obvious that a good deal of effort must have gone into it, but the piece just didn't work for me.  While there were definitely some interesting passages, it seemed overly long without sufficient musicality to sustain my interest.  Perhaps it's just me, and others will react differently.
