Train kept a rollin' *New Mix* much better

I love Aerosmith. The Yardbirds did it as well as many others. It is a very old blues song and Im not sure who even wrote it.......however this cover is of the Aerosmith version from Get your wings....1974....
I hope you like it. The vocals are alot harder to do than I thought they would be, but I finished the music and could not back out after all that work.
By the way the middle part with the audience was sampled from the Aerosmith version and looped a bit because I open the middle part up just a bit.

Ha Ha! Is this fun or not...some killer guitar work on this one...wow...and I give you some credit...attempting to cover Steve Tyler is no easy task....then again you covered Bruce Dickinson....geez do you have a death wish for your vocal chords?

lover your "devilish" little laugh before the one solo and you even included the live crowd noise...I wondered how you'd handle that...

very well done...I had lotsa fun listening to this one.

Yea but I did a rotten job on the Tyler parts...I am redoing the vocals and what I have so far is much better. Singing out alot stronger. It is making a big difference. I will post the better version this weekend. I am happy with the guitar tones however, so thanks.

Sounds excellent, very nice "live" vibe to the entire mix. What effects are you using on your vocals? A bit of flange?

    Hey Paul,
No I dont have a flange on it...I am processing the vox the way I always do. I use waves RVox and then compressed in the Buss fx bin with waves Rcomp. The newest vocal processing I have been doing and I like it alot is called VoxCiter by Prosonic. It is an awesome vocal processor that is very CPU friendly and does a wide variety of things. I just use a preset called "vocal recipe" and I tweek it a little with some excitation and a tad more compression. Thanks for asking. My vocals are rather weak in this tune but as I say a few posts up that I am redoing them and so far they are sounding alot better.

Actually Brad Whitford plays most of the lead in this song. He was never credited with nearly as much as he did lead-wise. Tyler really did want that "Jagger/Richards" vibe to be part of the Bands image, so I am guessing this is why Whitford did not get much credit early on for his lead work. Perry does play lead but only in 2 sections.
If you listen to their version you can pretty much tell if your a smith fan that the leads are not Joe's style.
Whitford fact. He went to the Berklee college of music in Boston.

It seems like you got a pretty good Tyler'esque take out of your voice. I personally would rather see you put your own signature on it, though, especially the vocal performance.

Good guitar tones, very well played, but the mix needs to be reworked a little. The vocals are too outfront and the stereo field on the guitars seem way too wide for some reason. That stereo field makes the bass seem like it's all alone in the middle when the vocals go away.

    Good stuff...

Dave thanks for the ears...I felt there was something wrong with the mix in regard to the guitars and the bass. I have the ryth tracked twice and each track panned hard left and right. Would you do it differently? The Bass is dead center.
You know, thats a good frickin' idea about the vox. I am all trying to comp tyler and I should be doing my own thing....Cool....I am on it right now....
    Thanks

You might try to pan the 2 guitar parts at 35 to 50 degrees each way, and then set up a delay bus (or 2) that sends the rhs signal far left and the lhs far right. Keep the delay short...less than 30ms. It may sound bigger, and fill out your stereo field more so that the bass isn't sitting so far away from everyone else. Move your kick a few degrees off the bass, and if your vocal is sitting dead center it never hurts to move your bass a few degrees off center as well.

OK Dave I retracked the vox and its updated if you would'nt mind giving it another listen. I adjusted the guitars panning positions however I did not try the delay buss yet. I have only dialup in my house till monday and come to my office to upload on a cablemodem. Sadly I did not see your instructions untill I was done and ready to upload. I really think it is a bit better. The lead is still to hot so I will fix that but pay attention to the vox...I feel they are much better. Not great but much better...(.sprint is jacking me around a bit on my instilation of DSL...now its monday till I have the home system ready for uploads)
I hope you think it has improved. I will try that buss idea tonight or in the AM
Thanks for your help....Its greatly appreciated. I really thrive on new ideas and new techniques.

The overall mix sounds much, much better.
I truthfully can't notice too much of a difference in the vocals, but they sound solid so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
