Transient List Message On Close
Last night when I went to shut down Platinum JP after comping a series of audio takes I got this message, "Building Transient List". It took several minutes to shut down. I wasn't doing anything with transients, only comping audio. I'm assuming I did something wrong but I'd like to know what it is? Thanks. Paul

Hey Paul, can confirm this issue although only in a historical sense. Havent seen the problem for several patches. What version are you on ? Secondly, did you use the browser at all when comping ? I ask as I was certain that the 'building transient' message spam on Sonar close was linked to the preview of audio files in the browser. I will have a go at doing the same in Kingston version to see if it still occurs. No sir, you are not going mad!

Thanks Silent. I'm on the JP version. Nope. I use the browser to bring audio into my project but never use the 'preview' function. I assumed that the 'Transient List' had to do with AudioSnap but I don't use that while comping either. When I shut down last night everything seemed normal. Go figure... It's just another in a series of strange behaviors I've been having since SPlat. Nor rhyme or reason but very frustrating. Paul

<Casts thread necromancy> Still having this problem, worse than ever. Short version - every clip previewed in the browser causes a 'building transient list' message spam in control bar when the project is closed. This is making project transitions much slower than I would like, annoying when Kingston has such improved timings. Can anyone else verify this problem using procedure above? I'd appreciate knowing whether its my install / system or a known problem...

That is the wierd part, I've no idea what 'building transient...' even means. Is it an audiosnap thing-a-magig ? All I'm doing is recording audio plain n simple, bit of recorded midi (V-Drums) to a sampler. Is there any reason that previewed clips via browser would need audio-snapping? I have the preview to tempo function off. I'm just auditioning riffs n demos from my collection played through the sonar studio setup (phones, bus mixes etc).

Take a look through your tracks to see if any of the track "Edit Filters" are set to "Transients". The edit filter is that dropdown menu on the tracks where you can switch from "Clips, Automation and Transients". If any are set to "Transients" then that might be causing it. If you have Groove Clips in the project or open Loop Constructor things going on I think that would make some transient crap happen. This is all total guesswork. I do not know for sure but the assumption I am making is the message/hold up is due to Sonar/the computer trying to make a list of all active/open transient markers in the project and their position/status/whether they have been moved/etc. In X2 I had a BIZNOTCH of a time while trying to close/save/reopen with open audiosnap clips and I think that was the issue (it led to serious crashes and project corruption). As far as I can remember I don't THINK I got that specific error message but that was years ago... and I may have actually gotten it. Point is since then I try not keep any active transient gack open when closing a project. I do the work and bounce it even if I have to do it all one section at a time. Pretty sure things like Vocal Sync and Melodyne tap into these transient data aspects of the program too. Again... total guesswork and n00b/non programmer understanding of the issue BUT maybe it will help point you to a solution/answer OR might jog the memories of the smarter folks around here. Cheers... and good luck.

Appreciate the input, granted its only my 'workflow' which is at stake but its really more than that, its the everlong dance between muse and technology. You all know how that goes... Practically - I dont use Audiosnap, vocalsync or melodyne. Sadly I'm from the school of endless takes so editing just isnt in my fingers. Sonar is still my tape machine all these years later. Which is why this problem narks me, I can swap a four track tape quicker than Sonar can build its bloody transients! hehehe, sorry - frustrated moment! The bottom of this problem I will find.

Well without any of those things I'm stumped (and even if they were present they should not be causing that much mayhem). If you can't figure it out or if the other doods/doodettes can't offer alternative suggestions it may be time to email support. Good luck.
