Travel Down The Highway

This is a song I wrote in the late 80's early 90's or so, I did a remake of it last year sometime and this is the result.

I lost a lot of master tracks from a couple of hard drive crashes, this is one song I actually had saved on a flash drive.

Apologies to all here for removing some of my tunes like I have that I have posted lately, I did that because I had the mixdown files only and not the masters tracks so I couldn't change nothing on those songs.

For this tune I do have the master tracks. I just felt it wasn't right for me to post a song asking for someone to listen without being able to change anything on those songs. Sorry. :-(

I'm no Mix master that's for sure, I don't get into all the fine details of mixing and all that stuff, I simply don't have the time or resources to get the best of the best to make things sound perfect. I just go for it. I"m sure I've improved since this recording but it is what it is for now.

My interpretation of this mix is as follows :

Vocals : I am not a singer, don't practice, don't try so I shouldn't expect stellar results or reviews, vocals sound really dry, but they are out front and understandable. I need a singer.

Guitar/Bass/Drums : Too far in the background, but still able to hear them.

Overall : Only reason I'm posting this, My song has a message about it, a friend of mine who is a professional musician once told me that heart will always win out over style. So I thought I would post this tune.

LOL!! Be Gentle with your replies please friends!! :-)

Thanks for listening!!

Sounds pretty good to me! The drums sound a bit "canned", but I don't think you're going for an "authentic" sounding drum mix so it's not a big problem.  I like the song itself.  It has good changes, and seems pretty well mixed.

The vocals are not too bad either, although there are some pitch issues in places, but overall your voice has a good quality to it.  Nothing that a little V-Vocal couldn't help quite a bit. :)

Not that bad Bobby. Sounds kind of live, like you did it outdoor. Could use a few adjustments here and there, but then you said your no sound engineer, so it is what it is. Not bad though.

Nice guitar playing and arrangement. Perhaps you should team up with a singer

Bobby, I usually think your music is very full sounding.  This seems a bit "thinner" to me.  You know, it's been years since we did Nasty Woman.  There's a lot of new people who probably haven't heard it and I think it's a good song.  That mix is very full.  I think Mark mixed it, right?  Anyway, you have oodles of talent and should just not worry so much.  The mix kinda grew on me for this one.  Your vocal has a Dylan, Petty  sound to it.  Not bad, buddy!  Keep on truckin.  You have some good stuff.

Well, disclaimers aside, this is a well crafted tune.  Your friend was right about heart over style.  I hope you attract the right person for this.  All the best.

Good one Bobby ! Yea I'm back after my hand surgery two weeks ago , hopefully I will be able to play my keyboard next month sometime and record something again . I haven't been playing or recording anything for almost two months and that sucks ! I have the stitches removed in a few hours and the bandage taken off today , hopefully I'll be able to play something soon .

LOL! Thanks man! Yeah the drums are a bit old school, it is my fatal flaw with drums because I am not a drummer. Thank you for the kind comments.

Hey Bobby.  Hey this is a well crafted song.  I agree with John that there are a few pitch issues on the vocals but actually your vocal has a bit of a Lou Reed quality -- and that ain't bad.

    Hey Bobby
I couldn't agree more with Freddy on how much your vox sounds like Lou Reed.  Great tone on the guitar and flow of this piece.  KUDOS!

    Hey, Bobby,

Nice job on this cool sounding 80's retro rocker!  Great guitar playing and tone, and your vocals sound really good.

Yep, Freddy and Kev are right about the vox sounding a bit like Lou Reed or maybe even Iggy Pop.

Keep up the great work, buddy, have a good one!

Thank you Kev, I have heard the name Lou Reed but I am not familiar with his music, I'm definitely going to check some of his music out though. Thanks again.
