Trident A-Range EQ--Softube or UAD?
Now that Sonar X2 has the Trident console emulation in the PC, which Trident EQ would you guys recommend to match it? I have both a UAD2 card and a Ilok2 dongle; so that is not an issue. I am just making a list of what to buy in the future and thought I would ask here on this software forum. So Softube or UAD2?

I have the Trident Softube and it is great. For a while when I first got it, I put it on every track and it never taxed my system.

I don't have the UAD but the Softube Trident is a great eq, very nice for tracking guitars & drum bus. I wouldn't purchase solely for trying to match it with the console though. You could use any eq or combo of channel & bus modules. I've been trying the new CE's in X2 in combo with NLS & Nebula Alex B. I haven't tried VCC in combo yet but will tell you the Trident model on that is probably my fav out of all of them, wide & clean.

You probably already know but if not Softube is having a 'buy plugin, get free fx' promo starting Sept 19-Oct 16. For the Trident A-Range Native ($199.99) the free fx is the Spring Reverb, Tube Delay, Acoustic Feedback

Can you give a link?

I have the UAD one so for me I can't justify the price of getting the Softube one as I would only use that kind of console emulation for certain things, like when I want to be Ken Scott for the day. The Softube one does have a saturation stage on it that's nice though, I'm not sure that's on the VST one as I've only tried the Reason 'Rack Extension' version. So I'd say if you are going to plump for one of them then the Softube one tips it.

I have not been following the prices or sales, but from googling the product, it seems that this deal is about as good as it gets. Also, my ear keeps coming back to that Spring Reverb as part of the combo. Is the Spring Reverb cool? It has a "tube driver" stage with the bass and treble controls; that sounds like it would be a great feature. So, any comments about whether or not this price is something to jump on, and also about the Spring Reverb?

Not sure if it's the best deal. Don't recall what I paid but I don't think it was close to $199.99. Maybe a bit higher because of the freebie promo? Haven't tried the verb.

Hey, just wanted to mention that you can pick up those Softube EQs for a discount at Audio Deluxe -- the Trident goes for $170, for example. That's the normal price, though. Softube will inevitably run specials on that and their other plugins which will save you good money. However, if you try those guitar fx units and decide you need one, this is a good promo since normal AD prices on those are close to $80 each. I just demoed the Acoustic Feedback plugin and liked what I heard -- realistic guitar amp feedback when playing Kontakt Rock Guitar. As a bonus, this plugin includes a limited version of the White Amp (Marshall stack) from the Vintage Amp Room, which doesn't sound half bad. Nice deal! Cheers, Eddie

Just to clarify, the current Softube promo is: buy an EQ (Passive-Active, Trident, or Tube-Tech) from a dealer, get ONE of the guitar fx plugins (Acoustic Feedback, Spring Reverb, Tube Delay) for free. You register the EQ by Oct. 16 and send e-mail to sales@softube.com asking for the freebie. Cheers, Eddie

You may want to hold off until there's a better price-point for it.
