Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie

I read this book a couple years ago... it was a great history book:

Last night I watched this movie, Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie. The movie was sort of slow and perhaps boring... but the recently declassified movie footgae taken during the testing is just astonshining and worth taking the time to view.

There was some really beautiful slow motion footage most of us have only previously seen low resolution public distribution versions of.

If you have any interest in this history the movie is a good watch.

best regards,
mike

Yes, I just realized it was made in 1995.

What's more entertaining than stuff blowing up? Really blowing up! My copy is in 3D and came with those campy red/blue cardboard glasses.

Now out on Blue Ray too. I find it interesting regarding the music score.
    wikipedia.org:
The film's publicity claims that much of the American footage is newly declassified and previously unseen. Kuran's research brought him into contact with many of the cameramen who photographed the American tests, leading to the production of another documentary, Atomic Filmmakers, which featured their reminiscences of working on the program. A new patented image restoration process was used for the first time to improve considerably the image quality of old and fading film stock.[1]
The film's music (composed by William Stromberg) was performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, symbolizing the end of the cold war. The score was later used in some trailers for the X-Men movies.

I also own all the VHS versions (including the 3D one) and find it beyond fascinating.  I've even stolen sampled a quote for a song from it ("I am not a nuclear playboy!").

Watching the last scene with the Chinese on horseback rushing towards the mushroom cloud always cracks me up though...

I too read the Rhodes book many years ago … a great read and a great balance between an analysis of the personalities and a description of the technology.  The one thing I found amusing (if you can find anything about the A-bomb amusing) was Einstein’s role in the whole process.  He did not believe in quantum mechanics and would use the mantra God doesn’t roll dice so at some point his colleagues basically told him to shut-up.

The video which I saw probably on PBS when it was first release was also very impressive.

    So Mike.....

I go to Philz house and you have a movie nite without me. Mooch was there, huh? I'm not jealous or anything I just want to know... Mocch was there, right? Did Mooch bring popcorn (like I do)? I'm not concerned or anything like that about Mooch and you, but Mooch was there, right? You can tell em the truth.... Mooch was there, right?

    Mooch?

It depends on what you define "there" as meaning?

When schools and teachers knew a bomb test was scheduled, they would take the kids outside to watch it.....

ahhhh the good old days, when doctors recommended cigarettes, DDT was available in any hardware store, and kids watched atomic bomb tests from the schoolyard...!

Yes, those were the days ... was it the cigarettes or the nuclear fallout that killed John Wayne or should we blame Howard Hughes?
