Trouble Changing FRIENDLY Driver Names

hello again...

wanted to change the record driver names to reflect the actual number on my AI's physical inputs (IN 1; IN 2; IN 3, etc.).

[btw...running SONAR 7 PE]

went into the driver tab in audio options; & the 8 drivers were listed as follows:

RECORD 01
RECORD 03
RECORD 05
RECORD 07...et al.

I changed them to:

RECORD 01
RECORD 02
RECORD 03
RECORD 04...et al.

now...when I attempt to select an input source in a track...it looks like this:

now...I had hooked up a mic to a pre for the test...which was connected to physical input #4 (IN 4)...& what you see selected from the above list (Right ASIO Lynx AES16 Record 02) now corresponds to IN 4.  so it seems to me what is happening is...Left 01 = IN 1; Right 01 = IN 2; Left 02 = IN 3; Right 02 = IN 4... & so on.

so...is there any way to get the friendly names to match...(since one driver represents 3 signals)...???...or any way it can be done in the INI file...???

(or should I just go back to the original designations)...???

thanx,

mark forman

I would just use the default. You soon understand which is which. The time you are wasting on this you could have finished a song :)

There is a check box to use friendly names.  Make sure this is checked.  IMO, it's not a waste of time.

I'd suggest putting the numbering scheme back the way it was originally, so that the designations match the labels on the physical unit.

In my setup here, I shortened the names (no need to remind me what interface I'm using, as I only have 1) and altered some to reflect the way they're used, e.g. Mic 1, Mic 2, Headphone Mix (on an output pair). But the line inputs are all 1, 2, 1+2, 3, 4, 3+4, etc. to avoid confusion.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    thanx...

    bitflip...

my lynx lists the left, right & stereo for each driver as the same # (see above)...so your's is the ideal scenario...wish mine was like that.

anyway...I changed my number designations to: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8...that way...when all three of a set come up as one designation (for example):

    ASIO LynxAES16 Record Left 1-2
    ASIO LynxAES16 Record Right 1-2
    ASIO LynxAES16 Record Stereo 1-2...

I know now that Left is physical input 1 & Right is physical input 2, etc.

    thanx again,
