Trouble inputting notes in Staff View

When inputting MIDI notes manually in the staff view, the program suddenly will not snap to specific intervals (such as each quarter, half, sixteenth, etc.). Instead, it would literally allow me to place each note, regardless of length, anywhere in time (it's possible that it is snapping at increments of 128). No matter what the snap property is set at it doesn't change this. Also, I adjusted the snap intensity to "most extreme" and still no change. The strangest and most frustrating thing about this is that it happened suddenly. Everything was working fine and then, without changing any settings, the program started doing this. I have a lot of work to get done and not being able to accurately input notes via the staff view is making it impossible to finish! 

Does anyone have any ideas as to why it's doing this and how to set it right?
