Trouble with Sonar X1 Advanced Workshop Video
Hi, Has anyone else had trouble opening up this program? I've been able to one time out of 5 attempts. Any help would be appreciated. Side bar: Navigating through the program during my one successful opening was a real treat. There are no chapters to select. You have to scroll through the entire video to find what you're looking for. Ugh. Thanks, Mike

Download quick time from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ Use quick time to open the Sonar Video you can click on the lower right hand corner to access the menu area to see the chapters and skip between them. As indicated on the cakewalk purchase page Requirements: Available as a digital download. View in any MPEG4 compatible player or device (QuickTime recommended). Presented in HD at 720p. Works with iPad, iPhone, and other MPEG4 friendly mobile devices. Please note: This video includes many tips for ProChannel which is only available in SONAR X1 Producer. Peace

Peace Hi Jesse, Thanks for your reply. I know I'm overlooking something simple, but I can't seem to get Quicktime to open the program. It always defaults to Windows Media. I've looked for ways to make Quicktime my default video viewer, but can't find a way. Any suggestions (that are printable )? Thanks, Mike

Rog, Open quick time, select EDIT, select quick time preferences, select the browser tab, and click FILE TYPES at the bottom of the screen. Here you can check off which file types quick time will be used to play automatically. You can click the SELECT ALL button at the top if you want it to be the default player for all media. Make sure you save your selection. To get quick time to open the video, With quick time open, go to File, OPEN FILE, go to the location of the X1 video and select the one listed as Sonar. Stay away from the MAC OS video. Peace

You could also right-click on the video file, the look for the "open with" menu item and select quicktime from that. The chapter navigation is on the lower right of the window frame in quicktime. When I first got the video I thought it sucked about not having chapters but once I used quicktime instead of Windows meda player, I realized it was WMP that sucked instead. BTW the video looks great on a iPad with easy chapter navigation.

Hi Jesse, I did just as you suggested but now I get an error message stating that the file can't be opened because it's a file that quicktime doesn't understand. Yikes! I'm using the latest version of quicktime. dleuen-same thing happened when I did as you suggested. Any ideas? Thanksmuch, Mike

Make sure you're not trying to open the file that starts with a period. One thing about the Mac is it generates two files for every file. I think the one with the period in front is used to identify files in the finder or something like that...it doesn't show up on the Mac, but does appear in Windows because frankly, Windows doesn't give a damn . I've been able to open the video in Quicktime no problem, and also found a codec at buzz-audio.com that lets Windows Media Player understand Quicktime files. I also converted the video to a .3gp and stuck it in my Android - I'll write these options up and post them when I get a chance. The Android video actually looks pretty good, but it takes 800MB so you need a decent-sized SD card.

I did download the VLC software but unfortunately I still couldn't open up the program. I'm just going to have to work with the program as is. It's doable--but a little more time consuming. Cheers! Mike
