True Detective

watched the first 3 episodes of True Detective last night and I am still upset and need to vent.
I expected a Leonard/Chandler type of drama with Harrelson and McConaughy, two fine contemporary actors.
I try not to read reviews ,to keep an open mind, but the basic premise here seems to be to depict a tiny cross section of humanity at its absolute worst, with lingering shots of crime scene photos, mortuaries and scenarios that no ordinary  person would or should be exposed to.
Seriously,WTF,this is entertainment?-anyone who has been exposed to real trauma,be it warfare, road or industrial accident etc must find these images pretty confronting-I certainly did and as my nephew advised me today "it gets really sick from now on"
I will return it.
so,is it just me -I understand the apocalypse themes as someone said-todays science fiction is tomorrows future-but I just don`t get the general acceptance of ultra real gore,a la The Red Wedding of Game of Thrones or Walking Dead etc?
is it because most of us haven`t experienced the horror of war or public executions or pandemics that we need to be reminded of our worst behaviour and broadcast it as entertainment.
apologies for any inadvertent TOS infringements-I needed to get that off my chest and move on.

My tolerance of ultra-violence has steadily fallen over the years. The longer you live and the more bad stuff you experience, the less-entertaining pretend violence becomes. It's no coincidence that slasher films' primary demographic are teens and twenty-somethings. They haven't had enough real life experiences yet to be disgusted by it.

That said, I still take the libertarian view that it's a personal choice. I just decide if it's for me or not and let it slide. I wouldn't have made it through 3 episodes.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
