True Piano (or any VST softsynth) --- Where are recorded parameters (events) stored?
Greetings, I was trekking along and Piano voice just disappeared. Checking all my routes, nothing muted, nothing misrouted, vol was good, bus was good. All was right with the world. yet...nothing out of the Piano that was literally *just* playing. So, I opened the Softsynth properties (Virtual Instrument GUI) and there was the culpret... VOL slider was pulled down to nothing. pushed it up. Spacebar to play. Didn't play at all. clicked on the Track view. Spacebar. Track plays. Piano slider down to 0000 again. At this point. I assume I have a zero vol data crumb tucked away somewhere. But I'm not entirely sure thats the case. Putting the NOW at ANY spot in the song, this same behavior happens. crazy.... dumped the piano and added a new one. slider doesnt go to 000 BUT, does jump to -4 I want to eliminate 'ghost parameters' by exposing the event list for sliders, twisty knobs and stuff on VST panels. Dunno where that might be. Anyone?

If the parameter is changing, the event was recorded into a Clip (in the Track View timeline). True Pianos can save a default preset (loads when True Pianos is first opened)... but that's stored within a preference file.

If you're using a Simple Instrument track, split it to separate MIDI and Audio tracks, and check the MIDI volume. That's going to get sent every time you start playback. You can set it back to the default of 101, and/or right-click it, and choose Disable Control so it will be ignored, and the volume will stay wherever you set it in TruePianos.

This is a little OT, but has to do with True Pianos. hope no one minds what ought to be a slight and brief diversion. The UI for True Piano suddenly changed on me when I'd done no upadtes or other changes. It always used to be a nice picture of a piano, but now it's just a screen with a set of radio buttons. Anyone know what's up with that?

Like MIDI Volume, that could also be due to track control settings, except Chorus and Reverb are now in the Inspector.

Look at the Event List view to get rid of it. that's what i thought too, but there is only notes in the event list. it was not isolated to jsut one project. it was happening to many, if not all. i have since delete t/p from all of my projects because of it.

Nothing in the events list, so thats right out. IF it only happened at bar 01:01:001 that's be one thing. It happens at any cursor-drop point in the timeline. That TOTALLY leads me to believe that what brundlfly says above may be the closest to the truth. I typically already have a split MIDI/Audio track (tidied up in a folder), but I did not thnk to check the twisty-knobs on the MIDI track itself. It HAS to be that.... ...stay tuned.

I have had issues with synths as well but it seems that if I reload my recording timing master selection in the preferences it brings back the settings to the current settings in the track. Hope this gets it for ya.

Under Preferences - Project - Midi do you have the "Zero Controllers when Playback Stops box checked"? If so, uncheck that box. That may possibly be the source of the problem. It defaults to checked on all new projects so you have to do this for every project.

The other thing I'd check is if you delete all clips in the track and just play, does the same thing continue to happen? That's a quick way to isolate if there is some rogue midi data hanging around.

On page 23 of the Truepiano's PDF manual is a list of all the CC's that it uses so you could get an idea of what controller is the culprit as well.

If it is not - then rightclick and select 'Disable control'. CC91 is a reverb control, and SONAR sends it to the track always, if it is enabled.
