True Story...

...straight from my elderly (82 yo) Mother-out-Laws' telephone converstation this afternoon.

She was out in town marauding with the Christmas Shopping pack. She decided to catch a bus back home and asked a gentleman at the bus stop if he could read from the time-table the time the next #14 bus was due.

He replied "No, because I am blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other."

She started to laugh and he indignantly said "It's not funny!"

She said to him "It will be in a minute when I tell you I'm also blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other!".  He started laughing.

She then asked aloud if there was anyone at the bus stop that could inform her of the time of the next #14 from the time table chart.

Two people actually put their hands up...

The lady sitting next to her who was still trying to stifle a giggle after overhearing the original conversation just erupted when this happened and she was able to relate the fact that two people had in fact stuck their hands up and  they were eventually able to help.

At this point everyone gathered at the bus stop had realised what had happened and were all giggling by now.

Mum was still laughing by the time she rang here from her 'phone safely indoors! And the way she described it, I'm still giggling too.

    Very funny...

To continue the mood, here's one of mine...

I was going through a line at Costco, and after my stuff was rung up, I asked what the total was as I always do (can't see enough to read the screen that would tell me)... and, there was no response, except some vague motion of some sort, but no response...

    Asked again, and still nothing...

Was getting rather lost at this point...

Asked again... nothing... now totally stumped and confused.

Then another store employee realized what was going on...

My low eyesight was being matched by the fact that my checker was deaf.  We each could communicate in certain ways, but none of them matched what the other was capable of.

The other employee read me the total, and all was good.

    Quite humorous actually.

    And, another one... why not:

Christmas/Thanksgiving dinners with relatives/buffets and the like are always interesting.  While I can see that there are many different plates, each with something on it, I can't really identify what that "something" is.

One Thanksgiving I was handed a bowl of some sort of unidentified fluffy white stuff (potatoes, mashed cauliflower, or?), and when I asked, was told that it looked like potatoes. Only it wasn't... it turned out that it was some sort of specially prepared horseradish.  Imagine taking a large sized bite of those "mashed potatoes"...

Another time, "creamy potatoes" turned out to be whipped butter... yes... I really wanted that good helping of whipped butter (not!).
