Truth - New song and some questions

First, a link to my latest amazing creation. It's a bit more country sounding that I ended, but I'll just call it "Americana"

Truth

Now, other than the standard "How does everyone like my new song?" questions, I have another one:
What are people using for video work? I have some videos on YouTube of my and my guitar, but I'd like to experiment with something a little more complex than me singing into my camcorder. If anyone has suggestions for decent, but not super fancy/expensive, video software, I'd love to hear it!

Depends on what you call expensive. I use PowerDirector 9 64-bit. Is around 99$.
What I lack, and what everybody should need is a director holding the camera...

I'll have to take a look at PowerDirector, $99 is about my upper range, thanks for the feedback! I definitely agree with needing someone behind the camera, though, that would be a HUGE help!

Can not help on the video.

    Nice tune, nicely done

My only observation, it seems a little lacking in a sense of space perhaps a little polishing verb on the whole mix not much just a tad.  (I could also be talking nonsense better people here than me)

Thanks Wookiee! You know... there IS a little reverb in there, very subtle though. I tried several different settings, and everything seemed to add TOO much space, so I kept toning it down. I need to play around with the different 'verbs more, I think, to get a better feel for them.

Real nice tune there, Brent.  Well played and sung too.  Felt like a nice, clean, simple, straight up singer-songwriter with his guitar kinda' song, and for me, that's a good thing!  I liked it.

Thanks Phil! I have some other songs which have more production to them, and one of them(called On You) came out really well. That said, the more time I spend thinking about what my upcoming CD should sound/feel like, the more I find I'm leaning to this basic, clean sound for the whole thing.

Someone mentioned about needing someone holding the camera. I don't have that. I just use a lot of angles. Make sure the scene is well lit. I've started thinking more about scenery and I'm sorting out some black material etc to put up in the room and I use some lighting to light the scene well and get a low noise signal so it looks great. Just shoot a lot of angles. You mentioned that you have the 550D on my thread. You can get such lovely depth of field with it. Get some tight angles at the widest aperture possible for ur lens and then keep a tight focus on your fingers with the angle running down the fret board. It's easy once you've figured it out :)

I use Pinnacle Studio for video editing. It's a very powerful, yet inexpensive program. Most of my vids are shot with a single camera, although I am working on getting a 2nd HD camera for added interest. Pinnacle Studio allows you to automate zoom and pan features, both of which add interest to an otherwise boring video.

Recently, I've been using a large cloth behind me to take away from anything in the background. Black and canvas seem to work very well.

Three lights are recommended. One head on at about 500 watts, one off to one side, 30° to 45° at about 300 watts, and the third located somewhere behind, pointed at the top of the shoulders. Work lights from home depot work well.

I then have a large condenser mic above me, just out of the picture, and I record simultaneously into Sonar X1-P

I also tried the lip-sync approach on a couple of tunes. It's a lot more work, but the results can be pretty cool.

OK, the song sounds really good, nicely mixed and recorded, I do all my listening on cheap speakers (I have monitors but if it sounds good on these speakers, the mix is good)

As for the video, think outside the box, you don't need to be in it,  Have the guitar sitting on a porch, on a rocking chair and use this as a motif.  Then think about the lyrics and find images that fit the motif of the words.  People have got this video clip thin all wrong.

The video clip is a direct desendent of dali and bunuel un chien andalou (look this up), or if you like surrelisim (sorry can't be bothered with spell check), or if you like it's a dream.  So you could be repesented by the Guitar in the chair.  At the end of the song put the camera on a tripod and have you walking away into the distance, I know this is a bit corny but thats what I see when I hear the music.  it's late in the afternoon, the sun is just setting, dust, dogs.  I know all corny stuff but I think these images juxtaposed together would work.  And don't forget if you do want to put yourself into the video, once again put the camera on a tripod, sit in the rocking chair and film yourself mimining the song and juxtapose the empty rocking chair and you sitting on it.  Hopefully this has given you some food for thought.

Oh and sorry you wanted a video program, try Vegas, they have a cut down version for $100 and it works very much like Sonar, you won't feel out of place using this as your video editor.  In fact you will go this is just like using an audio editor!!!!.  Trust Me, go Vegas, it's a sony

COREL VideoStudio Pro x4 is only $50, it's a handy editor with some useful effects AND it burns DVD's, Blue Rays and publishes to YouTube...it's a really great deal and I've used many different expensive editing programs, x4 will do what you want.

Haven't had a chance to hit the forum in a while, so a belated thanks for all the feedback. I've actually been looking at the three video apps suggested: PowerDirector, Vegas, and VideoStudio. I'm still not sure which I'll go with, but I suppose I'll just see if I can find a demo of each and try it out.
