Trying to Understand Drivers and Recording MIDI

Greetings- first time poster; I have learned a lot from other threads here already. I'm a longtime user of Home Studio but just moved up to Sonar X1 Studio. Here's my core question: If I record MIDI tracks at 192 samples using ASIO drivers, can I record other MIDI data later into the same project with different drivers, say WDM? I am recording MIDI via my Yamaha S90es keyboard over USB into Sonar X1 Studio. (Win7 64-bit) My audio interface is an old Audigy 2 Sound Blaster which takes in flawless audio with my old software, but will not work with 64-bit X1. I am dumping files between the two programs until I can afford a new interface.
