Trying to understand automation with Rapture Pro

Until now, I have used only the Cakewalk presets in Rapture Pro.  I thought it was about time that I learned a little more about how the synth works.  I picked a random preset to play with -- in this case Lead Synth-Chello Detune.  It uses two elements.

On the Instrument page, this program has all 8 macro knobs assigned.  I would like to create an automation envelope that sweeps the filter, as if I were using macro knob #5 manually.  When I go to the Mixer page and click on Mod Matrix, I can see that macro knob 5 is assigned to "F1 Cutoff All"

I thought it would be as simple as creating an automation lane on parameter "F1 Cutoff All."  But when I search through the hundreds of parameters that Rapture Pro exposes, I cannot find "F1 Cutoff All" anywhere in there.  There are all sorts of other similar parameters such as "F1 Cutoff EQ Sync 01".  Any idea how I can do this?

The fastest way I know to initialize an envelope is write enable automation in the upper right of the RPro UI. Start the SONAR transport, move the RPro control (in this case a macro knob) with the mouse. Stop the transport. Set the edit filter to clips and open the automation lanes. There new automation lane should be there. If there are other lanes, it may be necessary to click the + in an existing lane to show the new one.

That did the trick.  Thank you very much.  It set the envelope to "Macro Knob 05" which makes perfect sense, of course.  I had overlooked that group of parameters.

But this brings up a related question.  I seem to keep getting into a mode where the envelope is displayed within the synth track, not in a separate automation lane.  Even when I click on the automation lane button, the envelope remains displayed in the main track.  Is there a way to get the automation curves to all live within discrete automation lanes?

Make sure the edit filter is set to something other than the envelope. I set the edit filter to clips.
If after opening the automation lanes, the new lane does not appear click the + key in the last automation lane

BTW, this works with any of the controls in RPro and other plug-ins which are available for automation, not just the macro knobs.

OK.  Thanks again.  This whole area has been a little spooky for me.  I'm starting to understand it now.
