Trying to use Control Surface features of Motif ES7 w/ Sonar X1 Producer

Hello fellow Sonar users. I was wondering has anyone had any success getting the Yamaha Motif ES to operate with Sonar X1 Producer using the remote control surface features? I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out to know avail. I know that there are a ton of other controllers out there that boast ease of use, but this is my main board and I would like to use it as a controller and take advantage of the features it boast of.

I have not tried it, even tho I had an XS at one time I didn't try to use the faders/knobs as a control surface, tho I thought about trying to set it up several times I never got around to it.

what have you done so far?  I don't think there's a specific ES control surface definition, I would think you'd need to use ACT to get it to work and just map the I/O that way.  have you tried that?

I don't know if Yamaha changed anything in the implementation of the remote functions on the Motif from the original (which I have) but I could never get it to work in Sonar 8.3.1. As to using ACT in Sonar - that never worked either. It's not a Sonar problem but in the implementation of what Yamaha does that's the roadblock here.

I don't know about the ES but I use a Motif XS. It works in all versions of Sonar since 5. I use mackie control -1 as the controller script.

Put the Motif (XS) in song mode ( select a unused song) and then hit the remote button. Then launch Sonar. All expected functions, including on board meters work fine.

    Hi Danny,

thank you very much for your suggestion. I also own a XS and I always wanted to use it to control SONAR (X2). Only a question: with SONAR X2 but also with all other versions, do the knobs of the MOtif XS function properly? 'cause in my system, for example with the pan control, they behave a little strange (I mean, when I turn them left or right)...

    Thanks for your help,
    David

I don't have X2. As a aside, I had to stop upgrading when they dumped XP. (Way to many soft synths and authorizations running in xp and a complex network running fx-teleport) BUT it works great in Sonar 8.5.3 and X1.

6 would get flakey at times and would often fail to recognize the Motif as a controller. But I have never had a problem in 8.5 and X1.

    Best,

    Danny
