Tunecore

Hi all

Does anyone distribute their music to iTunes etc via Tunecore? I have had an album up there for a couple of years, but their renewal fees have gone up an inflation busting 150%! OK, it is still just $49.99 for a year, but I find the increase from $19.99 last year a little hard to stomach.

Can anyone recommend an alternative service that will distribute music to iTunes? I don't sell heaps, but I like having my music available and out there.

Thanks.

A belated reply/bump...thanks for the list. Can anyone recommend a service they actually use that will host an album on ITunes, preferably for less than the $50 that TuneCore now ask.

Honestly, I'd just stick with Tunecore. I did extensive research wehn releasing my two albums and it really is your best bet. CDBaby was my second choice, but they require more from you. Thought I believe they are a bit cheaper.

But like I said, Tunecore is the best I've seen..and in my opinion..well worth the 50 bucks a year.

Keep in mind; Tunecore gives you ALL profits made from iTunes.

CDBaby take's an addition 9% after iTunes takes their cut.

For an example, let's say you make an iTunes sale for 99 cents.
iTunes takes 30% of that. So now we're down to about 70 cents.
Tunecore will give you the 70 cents.
CDBaby will take 9% of that; so you get about 63 cents.

For me, it's a better deal with Tunecore because that 7 cents adds up as I make sales; also easily cover the 50 dollars I pay every year. I could definitely see CDBaby working better for someone though. Just gotta do the math and try to estimate how many sales you're going to get.

Also I've heard CDBaby makes the process a little harder to get online. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I picked up from reading about it..and Tunecore gives you a UPC code for free..from what I read, CDBaby makes you pay extra for that.

They both are probably the 2 best choices out there. Just gotta pick the one that works for you personally.

So on my first million, I would only get to keep 630 thousand? There goes early retirement :-(

from he list I posted  above I use Record Union= free
    Catapult= one time fee / $35.00
I have titles on iTunes at CDBaby too.

Check their sites for rates & see if it's cost effective for the number of units you sell a year. Some of my titles I have on iTunes only sell a few dl's a year so there's no need for me to use Tunecore at a yearly rate.
    Choose what's best for you.
