Turning off layers completely - is there a way?

This is something I have been meaning to ask for a few years. This is not a bug nor a disappointment in the program, just a simple question.

Is there any way to turn off layers completely in Sonar, so when doing multiple takes (and overdubs) it uses just the top layer rather than creating multiple layers? I don't comp tracks and compile a final version later, I generally just do takes and overdubs until it is the way I want it. One track, preferably on one layer!

If this is possible, does it have any effect on the undo feature?

Bottom line is, layers screw me up. I know this is not necessarily the fault of layers, it's just that after 20+ years of tracking to tape (and ADAT), my brain simply does not think in layers

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

right click the record button...untick create new layer on overlap.  click sound on sound if you want next take to combine with old....tick overwrite if you want new take to replace old....

I'm not sure why I've never noticed the "create new layer on overlap" option.
That seems to do what I was wanting. Thanks for the tip!
