Tweaking reverb sends

I've seen many posts where people say they EQ the send/pan the send etc. but I'm not really familiar with that - I just normally insert a send to a reverb bus (100% wet), but I don't do anything else with it.

My reverb bus is outputted to the master bus - can anyone exlain how I should be going about this?

Thanks

Yeah, just insert an EQ - the Sonnitus one is good for this - in the FX bin before the Reverb plug.

Use the EQ to roll of the highs & lows to "bracket" the reverb.

This is useful for a lot of reasons

1 - it clears away a lot of "mud" on the Reverb.
2 - it can create a "bigger" or "smaller" reverb, depending on the settings.

Listen to just the reverb bus itself, in Solo mode when adjusting the EQ - this will give you an idea of what's going on.

Apply your final EQ by listening in context with the rest of the tracks up & running.

There are lots of cool things you can do on a reverb bus.

Try inserting a Sonitus delay in front of the reverb plugin, set both channels to 100% wet, turn on tempo sync, set the left channel to 1/2 and the right to 1/3.

Another cool thing to try is adding a chorus after the reverb (Kjaerhus Classic Chorus works particularly well for this).

Also don't forget volume automation on the reverb bus, which can do some neat things such as bringing reverb up for the chorus and down for the verse, putting a long reverb tail on individual words, or chopping off the reverb tail on breaks.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Sometimes adding compression to the verb bus
sounds good too (if the signal to the verb is very dynamic)

Thanks everyone, some good things I can have a play around with.

    Cheers
