Twin Drums

This one is an experiment to see how running two instances of EZ-Drummer does. I'm using both the pop/rock kit and Drumkit From Hell and a drum map to sort it all out in Sonar. From the pop/rock kit I'm using kick, snare, and all cymbals. From DFH I'm using the first 4 toms, two china cymbals, and a medium crash. This is just jamming around on the V-Drums to get a feel for if the two sets can gel. Triplets between kick and toms seem smooth, even though they are coming from two different kits, and I just reall like that piccolo snare from the pop/rock kit. It sounds like my hand hammered brass snare I use live. Anyway, here's the bit. I call it "Twin Drums". ;)

I don't really understand what your testing but I do know it sounds good. Are you playing an electronic kit using different programs?

    Thanks! :)

Yeah, I'm playing this set of V-Drums as a midi contoller only,

and then sending the midi data to two copies of EZ-Drummer, one with the pop/rock kit loaded, and the other with Drumkit From Hell loaded as the sounds you hear. I'm using parts from the two drum kits to make a third drumkit with the best parts of the other two.

So cool--Sounding great. Drum maps are really a great tool--It's a nice change of pace to see a "real drummer" getting the most out of his electronic gear. So many of us are keyboardists, guitar players etc straining our brains to get drum tracks done.

Thanks for the illustrations too for folks who weren't sure what V Drums are and how you're using them. I love it.

Thanks Dave! The five outer pads for cymbals and the snare pad are all dual trigger, and have different sounds assigned to them, the two rack tom and two floor tom pads are single trigger, so the pads are doing 16 different sounds, plus I have kick and hihat. Lot of things to hit. ;)

    Thanks Hugh! :)

EZ-Drummer's pop/rock kit, and the new Drumkit From Hell expansion are the best sounding didital drums I've used to date. The Pop/Rock kit that comes with EZ-Drummer sounds quite a bit like my live acoustic drums http://members.cox.net/spambaconandspam/Pacific/ , and the Drumkit From Hell expansion has a more edgy sound that will sound great in harder rock or progressive jazz fusion stuff. So far, I like the sound of combining them together the best, as I did in this "Twin Drums" test http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=10481&songID=4596947

I'm using the kick, snare, and full cymbal set from the Pop/Rock kit, combined with the first four toms, two China cymbals, a medium crash/ride, and 8" splash from Drumkit From Hell on this. I used a drum map to assign which parts of the kit would play which of the two sets in EZ-Drummer. The sample player engine in EZ-Drummer is one of the best on the planet. No matter what you throw at it, it never sounds machine like. Basically, EZ-Drummer's sound engine is like a software version of the sound engine of V-Drums. Very well thought out, and specifically tuned for playing drum samples.
