Two Huge Automation Problems (esp the second one)
Issue One: I set a faders where I want it. For this example, assume it is at -6. After listening to the mix, I decide to add automation and adjust the fader. As soon as I turn WRITE on, the fader jumps to 0 db. That is weird but the real problem is that when I move it back down to -6 where it was before, it sounds only half as loud as before. Why is this a problem? Because it means after listening to a mix, if I want to use automation to adjust the mix, I have no reference point because I can't trust the previous fader setting. I basically after to start over with another test mix.
Issue Two: Added Boost 11 (64) to Master fader. While listening, I momentarily turned it off and on for comparison. and that created automation. No big deal except I can't get rid of the automation. If I delete Boost 11 and readd it, the automation is still there and I see no way to delete it. Now I can't use it on the track. WTH?

Hi Bill,
sounds like you're in 'offset mode' for automation. Easily done, the hot key is the letter 'o'.
Not sure about the BUS automation on the Master though. I'm sure you can delete the automation, but not a t my DAW right now. I'll take a look tonight.

Cliff, Thanks very much. Question on the first issue. If I hit O now, will that screw up all the automation I have already recorded? Regarding the second issue, I could not figure out the cause or fix. I did find a work-around. After deleting Boost 11 on the Master Bus, I added it to a different bus and dragged it to master. That got rid of the unwanted automation. By the way, Bill is fine, but everyone calls me Konrad (or, in moments of awe, The Mighty Konrad).

Hey Konrad, switching out of offset mode won't change any recorded automation - but the faders will jump back to the 'non-offset' position. There's a couple of URLs which might be handy to take o look over. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2573082&mpage=1 http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013130 Basically, if you changed a parameter while in offset mode, that 'offset' will stay when you switch back to normal mode. Just make sure you save the project under a new name before you do anything ... just in case the result isn't what you expect. You can tell if you're working in offset mode, the controls in the track header have a + sign instead of values (I think ?). Just hit 'O' a couple of times while looking at the track headers, you can't miss it. It seems funny writing that ... the first time I entered offset mode, was by accident, and I TOTALLY Missed it :-) Had me going for a while before I found what I'd done !. Now I know about, and understand offset mode ... it can be very handy, and I do use it occasionally. Cheers - Cliff

Hi Konrad,
just had a quick nose at the BUS automation.
Looks like it's just a case of selecting the envelope (shift click), then right click on it and select "Delete Envelope" in the drop down. That worked fine here.

Thanks--but I did that to delete the bus automation, but the accidentally automated changes in Boost 11 would not go away, even when I deleted and re-added Boost 11. The only way I could fix this was to drag a different instance of Boost 11 from another bus. Very strange.
I really appreciate your checking, though.
