Two tornados over the house this evening.... wow

I saw the first one coming on the TV radar. It was large and in charge and headed right for our house. They said 15 minutes eta. We jumped into some jeans and into te car and headed south. Went to our daughter's house and came back. When we got back there was a strange tree in the driveway, we drove through the neighorhood and there were some pretty big trees down randomly. I have no idea where the tree in our driveway came from, not from our front yard. Our neighbor said that it got really loud right after we left and they went in their basement (we don't have one).
So, about ten minutes after we got back the weather radar and TV says that there is another one that will be in Cassville in 8 minutes. They shwed the track and they showed the track of the first one, the second one looked slightly south of the first one so I decided to chance it. We cleaned out a closet, got some pillows, wifey got in there and I went to the door. I could hear it roaring but it missed us, a couple of big things hit the side of the house near where I was looking out so I decided it night be a bad idea to have my head sticking out there...
Man, they come and go FAST. More storms coming but I think just severe storms.
These storms wiped out a LOT of north Alabama, they said that some government buildings in Birmongham are just gone. Anniston and Gadsden don't look too good either.
 
It's funny what you grab in the moment. I grabbed my laptop, Kindle, cell phone.
 
All is well... at least here but I hear thunder coming this way again. I hope you and yours are well too. Oh, and I apologize for the serious post... laff.

I was thinking the other day.... what would I grab..... because you literally have only a few seconds since they do move so fast.

Glad to hear they missed your house....

Our closest big town got slammed a few weeks ago so we know the destruction those things can deliver. We were about 6 miles or so from the touchdown point, but I was picking up insulation and shards of wood in my back yard.

We got a slight hit a few weeks back.  It blew down large sections of fence and debris took out about 5 panels of screen on our pool enclosure.  We had branches down but the trees stayed put.  Some of our neighbors weren't so lucky. 

Our damage was so insignificant compared to what these latest storms that I'm almost embarrassed to even mention it.  That storm was just a baby.  I'd hate to experience the real deal.

Yeah, really glad you're OK.  Those things are terrifying. 

I was just thinking the other day that my backup HD is in a building not too far away from our house.  Since a lot of these tornadoes seem to be a mile wide, that doesn't seem so sensible anymore...  And yes...I've thought about what I'd grab...my laptop first probably.  Hopefully the hubby would grab the safe with all our papers, etc., in it.  Cell phone's always in my pocket, so that's easy....hmm...I'm going to start looking around and thinking about this!  :)
