Tyros 5 and Sonar X3 playback of self made midi songs

Hi

Is there anyone making a song In the Tyros 5 sequencer and then saving It.
Next export the midi file Into sonar X3 for editing.

I have a problem and have been trying to get Sonar to play the correct sounds on playback.
It Is ok when starting ,but soon as you change a registration the sound is not the correct one and sounds like a double effect.
The  Backing channels sound off as well .auto accompianment.
I have tried local off and all sorts without succsess.
My song sequencer plays all that I recorded great, but as soon as I put It In Sonar X3 weird things happen, like a double scrapey sound and different Instruments .
I thought that the tyros 5 sequencer puts all the changes In there and sonar plays back the same Instruments .
I have checked out all possibilites In my understanding and I am baffled.
There Is something really annoying that I have overlooked somewhere ,but cannot put my finger on It yet.
I would be grateful for any help here as I am sure others have had a whale of a time trying to get Tyros 5 playing correctly from Sonar X3.

Wel I will start at this and see where this leads me!!

All the Best
John

Ps Main reason for putting Into Sonar X3 Is to edit my minor mistakes and add some extras for a finished recording.
I like to play live and edit from there.

the event list view will help you determine if the correct patches are in the midi file

Hi
I have really just got Into sonar X3

Ok --I can play live and record a tune In Tyros 5's sequencer without a problem.
I could edit on the Tyros but Sonar would be a hell of a lot faster.
I have no problem with soft synths as yet
If I look at the event list i would see .I understand that.

What I am trying to get my head around Is that Sonar Is not playing the sounds that I Imported as a midi song file from my Tyros 5.Or Sonar Is making my tyros trigger different sounds for some reason.
I have set up Sonar . In my midi list I have my soundbox or card and workstation ticked
I do not think a Tyros 5 Ini sound file would make any difference for a straight playback from a pre-done midi file
I have a EMU 0404 sound box.
Once I have recorded on Sonar ,I save  as a midi file and then Import Into Sonar X3.
I see all music on all channels that Is ok.
I start to play and the first part on channel one plays as It should.
When I make a registration change on the Tyros 5 before save and Import the sounds played from sonar activating the keyboard are different and the  background style sounds different as well.
This Is what Is baffling me
I had one song before that went well and i cannot emulate that now for some reason
I will of course keep on trying to get this right .Make pristine In other words!!  "Oh the pain"!!!!!

help!! i' drowning!!

I'll take a wild guess here....

My thinking is that the midi file may be referring to registrations, not direct instrument program numbers and any custom parameters changed.

Registrations are stored in the keyboards memory, not the midi file, so changing a registration changes what the midi file refers to.

More guessing...thoughts...

Try dumping the registration used to a sysx file. Sonar can send this to the keyboard before the midi file plays.

Or, see if there's a way to get Tyros to save the midi file using program changes and to save any custom parameters as CC codes in the midi file.

I'd try some reading up on some technical details on how Tyros saves midi files. It'll be boring, but at least the hows and whys of what's going on will make it easier to deal with.

I think I have got near It now

I have checked digital workstation  IN

I have checked digital workstation  OUT

Tyros channel 1  through to 16 for each track

Just for name sake check the sounds to none especially on the style section

I realize you have to do things In the strict right order to get things right.

This has taken me a week to sort out this far

Thanks Super G and Mike  for trying to help here and I appreciate It 100%.
I cannot believe what I am seeing her.e
i can now mix soft synths with midi  recorded from my tyros 5.
I hope it Is not a flash In the pan.

I will stop here and digest what I have done and tomorrow i will concentrate on another go at It all
So many times you think you have the answer and all goes hooters up!!
In uk we say Tits!!

I have a Tyros 2 and I create a song on the Tyros 2 by pressing the front panel buttons to change sounds.  Then I save this to a USB stick and load it into Sonar.

The Program Changes appear as SYSEX messages.

You can create your own Tyros sequences directly in Sonar; however, Tyros has two types of sounds: 1-samples and 2-samples with effects processing.  In other words,  Tyros may have one electric guitar sample that appears as several different guitar sounds on the panel because of different effects (chorus, distortion, etc.).  If you want to use those sounds with effects, create the sequence on the Tyros and import it.  If you want to create songs directly in Sonar, the Megavoice sounds are your best bet.

Important Note:
When you create the song on your Tyros, close Sonar, reboot the Tyros, and turn Local On.  Then when you want to use Sonar, start Sonar, reboot the Tyros and turn Local Off.

I love the Tyros series BUT they are not the most sequencer-friendly keyboards on the market.

Hi Konrad
Big thanks for your reply!!

I have but all figured It out now.
Thank you for your reply and you are exactly right ,not the easiest midi friendly until you crack It
I will take screenshots now and never forget.

I put my song which I have recorded frommy Tyros 5 Into sonar X3.

So now I have DIGITAL WORKSTATION as my IN
DIGITAL WORKSTATION midi channel 1 OUT  ( repeat for all other channels)
C - midi channel 1  Tyros 5
B- is soundbank.

W
best thing now Is that the soft synths work on a separate audio track which opens up a fantastic world for me now!!ell that combination works for me at the moment as i am experimenting.

All the best
John
