I've installed a UA-101 into Win 7 Pro 64bit with no problems at all.
Twice in fact, as I decided to reinstall Windows after a few weeks because I wasn't happy with a few things I installed when I first set the PC up.
Steps:
1. make sure UA-101 is not connected to PC
2. right click on driver installer and select "run as administrator". Answer "yes" to any permissions questions Windows asks.
3. when the installer asks me to, connect UA-101 to a USB 2 socket .
4. sit back and wait a few seconds.
5. the installer then Windows announces it's found the UA-101
6 done.
I suggest you start by downloading a fresh copy of the driver. Then check if the UA-101 driver was installed when you tried to install it - control panel/programs and features should list it if it is installed. It might also show up in device manager, and can also be uninstalled from there.
If so, uninstall it. Disconnect the UA-101 and reboot the PC. Run the fresh copy of the driver installer following the instructions, waiting until the installer tells you to before connecting the UA-101, and see if that sorts things out.
If it still fails, try a different USB socket. Make sure the socket is USB2 not USB3. Many/most/maybe all interfaces (by all manufacturers) don't seem to work very well with USB3 sockets, if they work at all. If a different socket still doesn't work then try a different USB cable.
The "USB controller" could be Window's trying to guess what the UA-101 is, which might mean the driver isn't being installed correctly for some reason. One reason this can happen is if an installer isn't run as administrator.
