UA-1G driver installation issues

Good morning,
Well, after trying everything I could think of last night, I still can't get the drivers installed for my UA-1G.  I get to the step where you plug in the device, it asks about "automatically install (reccommended)", but when the driver actually goes to install I get the message:
 
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or application request
 
 
From the research I did, it looks like there may be collision with another driver or something of that nature.  The first time I went to install the driver, I screwed up the order of operations and had to start over (using the "uninstall" program), so perhaps there is some remnant of the driver hanging around?  All other USB devices (besides mouse) are disconnected, etc. etc.  I tried disabling my onboard soundcard through device manager and then doing the install, that didn't work either (same error).
 
I guess I don't expect too much help here, as I know this is a tough issue to troubleshoot.  I figured I'd ask though, because without the ASIO drivers installed I don't think the unit is going to be worth it (it works fine in Advanced driver mode set to off).  I'll keep trying, and come back if I figure something out.
 
FWIW, the rest of the package is awesome (Sonar 7 HS XL).  I'm brand new to music creation on a pc / synths / etc, and I was able to jump right in and figure a ton of stuff out.  Very impressed overall.  If I can get my driver issue figured out I'll wind up having a lot of fun with this.

Try downloading the driver and running it from your hard drive. Turn your computer off and unplug the UA-1G then turn the comp on. Then run the driver installation program. It should uninstall any existing version. Plug in the UA-1G when instructed to do so. I think the key might be starting the computer without the UA-1G connected. Hopefully that's all it is. Reboot the computer after installing the drivers. Can't hurt. I've installed the drivers a couple of times (once from the CD and once from the downloaded file) and didn't disconnect any other USB devices and it worked fine.

You're using a 32 bit version of XP, yes? I don't see a driver for a 64 bit XP version.

well with 2 cards (the onboard) and the other music one, there are things regarding the default card..  what sound comes out of as normal.

remember asio mode can only support ONE card in this situation.. so u need to untick the sigmatel or whatever it is OFF in the sound card section of sonar / apply it. then you can select ASIO no worries..

I use ccleaner as a good way to find junk in the registry. but you can also disable the card in the bios , if you never use it..  some here recommend that, but I don't unless there really are issues with irq sharing etc.

I recently bought some UA-1G Interfaces for my friend and myself.

While the installation was easy on my computer - my friend had really crazy problems. His system is 6 year-running-XP installation. He refused a re-install of xp because he is lazy.

After 2 weeks his system crashed because of a "game update"! I pulled a backup of his files (a hell of work with a faulty system): he installed a fresh XP Installation with SP3 and UA-1G installed perfectly. It works great and sounds much better than the "OnBoard-HD-Audio-crap-audio-chip" of his Notebook PC.

I was supervisor of customer support at "eJay Germany" for some years and my experience showed that at least 45% of customer problems are based in problems with Operating Systems, Hardware conflicts, Updates & Drivers.
