Them boys at UA can't seem to clear their holster before they fire anymore. They must have some pretty sore toes. An amp sim. Geeze louise.

Have to admit Yoropal that the thought of these did not excite me too much either, but as I had not upgraded my UAD Software since 6.4 I think, I thought I might as well, then I could have a listen Well just had a little play and I thought the ENGL® E646 VS Limited Edition Plug-In sounded very nice - the other one was not too bad either - BUT THE COST - I don't think they sound that good it would make me splash out for them, not at the moment anyway. The emulations, particularly on the E646 sound very full if you know what I mean and they might even be a little difficult to fit nicely into a mix. But I won't be trying that as I won't be buying them!!!! Nigel

They're developed by a third party (Brainworx), as with a number of recent UAD offerings. I'm not sure what the behind the scenes arrangement between UA and their development partners, but I don't think UA deserves either all of the credit or all of the blame for any of that stuff. I don't find a lot of this stuff very appealing especially given the pricing, but luckily no one is forcing me to buy it.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Yup. But then, the best stuff is rarely inexpensive -- when it is, I don't hesitate to point it out, but in many cases, "you get what you pay for" applies. Take these ENGL boys, for instance. Pricey, yes. But just try them -- to my ears, they get closer to the sound and feel of a REAL amp than anything else I've tried, including Guitar Rig, Amplitube, Softube, Kuassa, etc. etc. Even Brainworx's own bx_rockrack plugin, while impressive, didn't wow me like these do. Major kudos to BW/UA for bringing these to life. Cheers, Eddie

Eddie Will you be buying both of these do you think? As I said, I did think the E646 in particular sounded good - my main worry is the price Nigel

Hi Nigel! Yes, the 646 suits the kind of material I'm working on better, so that's high on my shopping list. The 765 is also impressive, but a little too crunchy for me. Purely a matter of taste, of course -- only you can determine for yourself (via a demo) whether either is worth the asking price. If you feel it's too steep, UAD has sales at regular intervals, so it may be wise to wait a few months. One other caveat: the DSP usage is pretty substantial. Don't expect to run multiple instances of these guys unless you have a lot of headroom. Cheers, Eddie

I have quite a few amp sims. Schuffman ain't bad for the price. As the "other" Eddir sez, it is about personal taste. Being a bass player that dabbles in occasional guitar, I'm not as critical about tone as the geeter players here. I really want to get into Acme Bar Gig's Head Case (which I own) but just have not had the time (yet).
