UAD and Platinum--Everything Working Ok?
Well, I STILL haven't updated my UAD-2 plugs to the 64 bit versions. They are working great for me with jBridge, and I didn't want to mess up my system, especially since I'm also still using X1 for tracking and some mixing. (I still prefer track layers, too!) How is the latest UAD software (8.0) working for you guys? Any problems with either X1 or Platinum? I'm thinking about doing the upgrade this weekend. Fingers crossed.

Everything is fine for 8.0 and X2a. Which is my current preferred version.
I've messed around with the latest platinum build a bit, but was getting random crashes (that I don't think we're UAD related at all) and a few other slight annoyances... BUT these were primarily opening older versions of Sonar or bouncing back and forth between different versions. Maybe someone else who built a project from ground up in Platinum can comment more on it's stability w/UAD 8.0...

SONAR Platinum x64 and UAD 8.0 (x64 plug-ins only) working flawlessly here. Just make sure to only have the x64 UAD plug-ins folder being picked up and scanned by SONAR. Scanning both x86 and x64 UAD plug-ins will lead to erratic UAD plug-in behavior, as SONAR does not know which plug-ins to open (x86 or x64). Choose the VST plug-in path for x64 VST UAD versions and leave out the x86 UAD VST plug-in path and you should be fine. Cheers, Billy Buck

Excellent advice, Billy. Just the kind of thing I wanted to know about.

One thing I forgot to mention, since Win 8, 8.1 are not UA supported, it is best to run the UAD installer in "Windows 7" compatibility mode. Right click on the installer .exe and select "Properties" and then the "Compatibility" tab. I also make sure that the UAD installer has "Administrator" privileges (bottom of Compatibility tab) and once installed, all UAD related apps (UAD Control Panel, Apollo Console if you have one) . In fact, all of my installed media apps (SONAR Platinum, REAPER, Vegas, Sound Forge, etc) have Administrator privileges for smooth updating and operation. Cheers, Billy Buck

I've actually just this last month sold my UAD 2 QUAD with v8 but had no problem running it on win 8.1 update 1 without resorting to running it in Compatability Mode.
UAD are becoming more Mac centric in my opinion, so I decided to pull the plug.

All good stuff. I never mentioned that my system is Win7 and 64-bit, and I don't plan on going to another computer until well into Windows 10, or whatever it will be.

Just realized something: I've made a whole bunch of presets for the 32-bit UAD plugs. Are those all going to be unusable for the 64-bit versions? They are located in the UAD Program Files (x86) folder. Can I just move them to the 64-bit program folder?

No need to move anything. The UAD Program File (x86) folder is the default presets folder location for both x86 & x64 plugin versions. Cheers, Billy Buck

Another happy UAD V8 & Sonar Platinum user here. I did have to resort to the compatibility mode when I first installed the UAD plug-ins on my new DAW late last year, but thus far the updates have installed without a hitch. I no longer install the x86 versions because I don't need them, so I can't comment on conflicts with them, but when I was installing both I don't remember having problems. As far as UA moving towards Mac centric - I'm not sure I agree. There are issues with Windows and Thunderbolt, and UA have clearly chosen Thunderbolt as their interface of choice. It is a very sensible solution if you take the long view, it extends the PCIe bus outside the chassis, and that is a very cool idea.
In the short term it means that Windows users get the short end of the stick, which is unfortunate. If I were running the company I'm not sure which path I'd have chosen, even though I am a Windows user. The new versions of Apollo suggest, to me at least, that they have not forgotten us.
Now whether or not they should have pointed the fickle finger of blame towards Redmond is a debate I choose not to join<G>!

I’ve had no trouble running the newest UAD software with Sonar Platinum, everything in 64 bit. Well, there’s one little and somewhat annoying bug, probably on the UAD side: the Ocean Way Studios plug seems to revert to the default settings every time I reopen a project. I’ve been leaving the OWS window open when closing files to remind me to check the settings.

That is a weird one, indeed. I use the OWS, sometimes multiple instances in a project and the OWS settings are always saved and recalled as expected. Are you using the latest UAD v8.0? Otherwise, we seem to have similar DAW specs. Cheers, Billy Buck

Thanks, Billy Buck! That's good to know. I've always wondered why my personal preset names don't appear in the plug-in's preset selection window in BitBridge or jBridge, but the settings do take effect when I load them.
