UAD release Tonelux TIlt EQ and and Valley People Dynamite

Universal Audio has released the Valley People Dyna-mite and Tonelux Tilt EQ plug-ins, developed by Softube.
The Valley People Dyna-mite Plug-In is an emulation of the classic limiter/expander/gate designed by Paul Buff, who founded the PAL studio in southern California.
Although it can be used as a traditional limiter or expander, the Dyna-mite is also a creative tool capable of extreme, yet musical effects on a variety of sound sources.
The Valley People Dyna-mite plug-in offers the exact features and sonics of the hardware unit and can transform instruments with dynamic gating textures. It can be used for nearly anything from gently limiting and de-essing vocals, to demolishing the transients of any sound.
Features:
  • An exacting emulation of the original legendary 80s dynamics processor.
  • Use it to limit, expand, gate or de-ess, with a wide range of uses.
  • Limiter goes from abusively squashing to transient-enhancing spikiness.
  • Expander/gate goes from strict and tight to subtly expanding by softening the soft sounds and bringing the louder sounds forward.
Price: $199.
The Tonelux Tilt EQ Plug-In is designed for quick, simple, and effective broad-stroke EQ moves. With the single Tilt control, engineers and producers can quickly mix as they go. Turn it to the right to cut lows and boost highs, turn it to the left to cut highs and boost lows. The Tonelux Tilt EQ Plug-In also models the transformer found in the Tonelux hardware, adding a subtle distortion for bass frequencies, fattening up the low end of a track.
The included Tilt Live EQ plug-in skips the transformer modeling, freeing up more instances for live mixing. It also replaces the Gain control with a Boost Ceiling control, which keeps the output gain of the plug-in from being boosted no matter how much EQ boost is applied.
Features:
  • A one knob equalizer that quickly gets your mix in shape.
  • Speeds up your workflow and makes mixing more intuitive.
  • Models the entire Tonelux Tilt circuit designed by Paul Wolff.
  • Smooth high and low pass filters.
  • Two plug-ins included —Tilt EQ with transformer modeling, Tilt Live optimized for live mixing.
Price: $99.

This seems to be a trend where Softube, Brainworx, and other vendors are offering some of their stuff on the UAD platform.  It should be noted that these Softube plugs are the same ones that have been available natively.

The new plugin included in this UAD release is the Thermionic Culture Vulture.  Here's their intro vid, which I found quite entertaining:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ33P022PqA

I still have a bunch of early Valley People hardware. So I was very curious about this one, and I have to say, it lives up to the potential. I've got to spend some time (re?) learning how to use it though!

The Tilt and Vulture Culture are tempting, but I think I'll wait till I have some spare cash before trying them.

Would love to try the Softube version but they still use iLok so that's the showstopper right there! Too bad, sounds interesting..

    Peace!

Adding your plugins to Descartes, eh?

But really, these UAD versions of native plugs would appeal to those whose DSP capacity exceeds their system CPU -- when you're running lots of tracks and plugs, it helps to offload some processing to your card(s).  AND ... some have reported better sound quality from the UAD version of the same plugin.  Probably not a huge difference, but maybe worth investigating.

Wonder how the same plugins sound better on the UAD platform. Very weird.

I don't know about them sounding any better on the UAD platform, but with a $50 coupon from UA, it's at least $30 cheaper than buying the Native version from Audio deluxe for the Tilt EQ. That would be the *only* reason to buy the UAD version (IMO). As far as I can tell, The plugs sound no different (YMMV).

I guess it's plausible, given that the plugin source code has to be redone and/or recompiled to run on the SHARC chip.  The SHARC may be more efficient at audio DSP than an overloaded system CPU ... that's one theory, at least.  The basic math is the same, but different architectures handle things like rounding differently -- floating-point vs. fixed-point, etc. etc.  Sorry, I'm starting to ramble.

In any case, the audible differences, if any exist, aren't likely to be significant.  The main advantage is relieving your poor overworked CPU so that you can run more and more plugins ... and really, that's what it's all about, isn't it?

I've been off of UAD for sometime now...though I still use the many UA plugs I have. And have been totally nonplussed by their recent issues of plugs from other plug suppliers that can be had natively for the same or less. I don't see the point, really. I've had the Tonelux Tilt (from Softube) for some time and it's a dandy but think UAD is off base with this partnering plan. The Culture Vulture is another story...don't think you can get that anywhere else in plug format and it's just the kind of thing UA SHOULD be doing IMHO.

Would like the Ocean Way UA plug as well. Maybe during the Xmas sale.
