U.F.O. - The Larry Norman Classic song revisited

Hi all!  Been SOOOO long since I've posted anything here.  (Health and other stuff gets in the way...)

Hope everyone is doin' okay.  Beagle - thanks for your help a minute ago!  You're always a mensch!

Anyhow, I'm VERY excited about this song - a whole new sonic approach for me.  Somewhere between the classic sound of the original with modern synths thrown in.

Here's the track for your aural-perusal.

U.F.O.

- My cover of Larry Norman's song from the 1975 album, 'In Another Land'

Please feel free to critique it.  Since it's been a while for me, I'll respond in kind and critique any new songs of yours.  'Tis only fair!

ps:  Still getting royalty cheques from the 2nd last song I posted here (On That Day) - thank you again for ALL your efforts, past and present, to make my tracks sound better!  You guys are the best!

    Hello Martin,
WONDERFUL song....WONDERFUL cover. What a performance and your vocals are just stellar.
The mix also is just so clean and clear on my end.  I like how you didn't stray to far from the original.  Your added touches was spot on to building the extra fullness this song/mix needed.

Was this done in a home studio and did you do your own mastering?

From the arrangement to the performance/mix, everything was done to a PRO production.   KUDOS!

Welcome back! I've been wondering if you're still recording or not. I'll never forget 'Waiting to Be Found.' I thought you'd be receiving checks for it too. :) Congrats on the other one. Anyway, this is absolutely gorgeous and so perfectly done. I'd never heard it before, so it's a real treat. Blessings!

Wow.  This is great feedback.  Super!  Very encouraging - thank you all!  (Yeah, I can never get away from the John Denver thing - it's like if Don McLean and John Denver had a kid, my voice would result...ha-ha!)

    God bless y'all.

ps:  For a live version of original, you can see Larry Norman (R.I.P. 2008) on Cliff Richard's T.V. show from the 80's performing it here.

I met Larry Norman.  What interesting 'look right through you' eyes this dude had.  Very real soul in every way.  Miss his presence, but again, he was only visiting this planet.

Hey there - I forgot to answer your questions.  Yes, home studio, yes own mastering.  Gonna burn a CD of 2 or 3 iterations shortly for 'in-vehicle-monitoring' --- 1 with less de-essing, 1 with more bass and 1 with more kick.  But just a tad here and there because, thanks to everyone's great comments, I'm pretty close to as good as I can get it.    Thank you again.

Thank you so much!  Guess I'm gonna get it onto CD Baby and shop it around to different Christian Radio (independent) stations.  I believe the Norman family just wants $100.00 for the opportunity to cover a Larry song .  I read that on his site some time ago.   Cheers & thank you again EVERYONE!  :-)

Wow, I saw that you posted on our Pugtones tune and didn'rt know if I ever heard any of your stuff.  This seemed to start with a little noise but as it went on I realized that you are a really great player ajnd singer!  nice recording!!  OK, at second listen I realize the noise is supposed to be there in the beginning, I think!!

Hey there!  Thanks for the thoughts.  For the rest of me sonic stuff, you can head over to www.soundclick.com/martinbarret k?  Thanks for asking.  By the way - LOVE YOUR QUOTE/SIGNATURE!  Just in the middle of reading Chesterton's 'Everlasting Man' now.  Heavy stuff, but great!

The crackle at the beginning is Izotope's free 'VINYL' plugin.  Deliberate for the radio chatter effect.  All the other cool synths that do the effects, by the way? - I kept coming back to Rob Papen's Predator.  Great toy!

Here's a better version of the track for free download.  Chunked up the bass better here.  Then it's off to CDbaby for registering and disty.  I have a friend who might really see this gets around.  I hope, anyhow.

Thanks again and to everyone.  I couldn't locate everyone's (above's) tracks for comment, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.   Today might be one of those days I can't be on the computer though, I think.  Might hvae to wait.  (Sever Migraine setting in...grrrr).

    God bless,
