UPDATE: 30" of snow in my yard right now..

video from saturday morning:

http://youtu.be/hTk3QaAtuVk

and more on the way.

took me 1-1/2 hours to clear my driveway with a snow shovel...
wow.
it was WAY heavy.

looks like a winter wonderland right now, i'll take some shots in the morning, in the light, and post.

i suppose the ski resorts will open this week with this much snow...

they had 80 mph winds up at guardsman pass (park city ridgeline) and knocked some big power lines down....

those are stonger winds than they had during hurricane sandy.

we had power lines arcing in our backyard, had to call the fire dept.
they told me they had 400 calls tonight....

they'll come out and trim the trees in a few days.

The white stuff is pretty to look at...but personally I hate the stuff.

I sure hope all that is yours remains unharmed in the crazy weather.  Take care my friend!

    WooHoo!!!!

    Lookin' forward to it.

Love it when its fresh and undisturbed, its when it starts melting and all the dirt and crud mixed in that makes it ugly and I get ready for it to be gone.

Not sure whats going on here.

The weather man keeps on saying the "Snow" word, it will be 20 degrees at night and then much like today, here we sit close to 70 again.

I wish it would make my mind up, the snow blower is ready and waiting

I love snow, but I hate when it always snows at night and I have to get up 2 times in the middle of the night to go rake the snow of the greenhouse roof or it will collapse under the weight.

Never fails, always start snowing around 11 o'clock at night.

    That's cool to see, Bat.
You know, scraping the ice off the windshield and shoveling the driveway was kind of a pain, but I miss it in a way.
The smell of snow, the negative ions, the quiet of it.
After spending most of my life in Colorado, running the AC in the van in November just feels wrong.

2" here, I drained my hydronic solar panel and let the cats in.
I like the snow because it puts an end to outside chores...more time inside with guitar!
I have a plow for my Ford Explorer, I can proof mixes as I plow with the heater on full and windows wide open.
The sidewalks,,?, well I'm working on a continuous roof system or heat coils.

    ANOTHER 5" FELL LAST NIGHT.....
    super light, lake effect...

so i'm guessing we've had at least 26" of snow, plus drifts that are about waist deep in the backyard now

    We are finally getting there.

Yesterday it was 70 and sunny.  BBQ'd dinner outside in shorts and tshirt.

Today it is 30 and falling outside and getting ready to snow.

It sure looks pretty in the video. My opinions of snow vary greatly. Being from the south I am not the most excited to see it when it comes.
The first snow is nice but it does get old for me after the third or fourth consecutive day I have to clear it at 4am so I can go to work.Kind of like chocolate cake. I like a small piece once in a while but if you force feed me chocolate cake every day for a month I am sick of it.

well, the final tally ended up being 30" at my location...

other places down in the valley only got about 6".....

my location is obviously prime for receiving lake effect snow, which can effectively DOUBLE the amount of regular snow fall.

the great salt lake, gives us the best snow on earth, due to lake effect.

i broke my back shoveling the first round, super wet, like 'sierra cement', but the lake effect snow is SO dry, you can't pack a snowball with it.

My favorite part of a deep snow is how quiet it gets. like a giant sound absorbing blanket on everything.

Me, too. Silence is a most precious commodity in the city! I live a quarter-mile from a freeway, so there is this constant subliminal noise floor that you don't consciously notice until it briefly disappears right after a snowfall. I like to set a lawn chair in the driveway, light a doob and soak in the silence.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
