UPGRADE THE RIG

Posted this one over at the Sonar forum with no feedback yet. Might as well try the luck here. Folks, time to start thinking of upgrading the whole rig. I am budget defined...will be running a MOTU 8 Pre,  Sonar 8.5 on a windows 7-64 O.S, would like 60 to 80 audio tracks, fair amount of plugs and an instance or 3 of EZ drummer or other soft synths. Should I stick with Intel (i3 or i5 750) with an Intel or Gigabite M.B or try something from AMD?  Seems like alot of bang for the buck with some of the new AMD CPU's. Can't afford the i7 route so that is not in the picture. Anyone running a MOTU 8 pre with a similar system as described above??? If so...what are your results. AS always, thanks for the advise.

My 2 cents, get the best system you can afford. If it's not the Core i7, then I'd go with the i5. The MOTU should have no problem with that.

I personally like the Gigabyte boards, but lots of folks like the ASUS too.

    PE 8.5.3,  Windows 7 Pro 64-bit,  i7 920,  GA-EX58-UD4P,  6gb Corsair DDR3,  2 x Barracuda 500gb,  HIS Radeon GS-4670 Fanless 1gb DDR3, dual 24" monitors,  Axiom 61,  Korg Triton Pro,  Focusrite Saffire Pro 40,  VG-99,  Yamaha MSP5,  Fostex PM0.5

the AMD Phenoms are the same price as the Intel 760
    the Intel outperforms.
the Phenoms will be faster than the 500,600 series of Intel.
you can get Matx boards for both.

you can always add a good TI firewire card if needed for the Motu

Hey, thanks for the input Scott. I  was eyeballin' your AM3 box on the ADK site. I revisited that page and see that  system is comfortable with 100 tracks and some serious plugs. The price is nice too.  I don't know that I need much more than that...at the moment...LOL!!!! Don't really hit the soft synth thing that hard, other than some drum creation software...ez drummer, addictive drums. Thanks again for your $.02

sounds like for what you are doing it would be fine.
    and has TI Firewire!
all newer systems really are plenty of power for many.
from left to right they are aligned not only by power but price :-)
