URGENT: CAN'T OPEN ANY FILES IN SONAR

When I try to open a file I get an error message that says “Custom Data Folder is inaccessible.  Please use Directory Manager to specify a new Custom Data Folder.”

At that point, Sonar locks-up and I have to use Task Manager to close it.  I cannot reopen Sonar without rebooting the machine.

Everything was fine on Sunday.  I traveled for a few days and when I returned, I was unable to use X1 at all.

What does this error message mean?  I have sessions this week-end.

    Hi konrad-

Are you logged in as administrator, and if yes, did you check the folder properties and make sure it didn't get switched to read-only somehow?

    Thanks, Susan, but which folder?

    - I get the message trying to open Sonar X1 files I created (that were fine last week).
    - I get the error message wehn trying to add Vienna as a soft synth to a new file; note, however, that not all the files I am trying to open have Vienna in them, so I don't know what's going on.
    - I tried to open Sonar files both from the D drive and from an external USB drive, so there is more than one folder involved.

Is it possible that you don't have all of your external/USB drives connected/turned on?  Also with external drives are they plugged into the same port they normally are in.   If not, they may have been assigned different drive letters than you previously and that could result in the error message you are getting.  In other words, it is looking for files on G: drive for example when it now is F: drive etc.

Another good idea, but this affects files on the local D drive.  I also get errors when trying to add soft synths to a new file.

Since posting, I discovered that all the folders accessed by Sonar had somehow been checked "Read Only."  I have no idea how that could happen globally when no one was even here, but by unchecking this, I was able to load some of the files.

There is still some strange behavior going on.  Let me continue to experiment and then I will document what I find.

    Thanks again.
