The funny thing I have noticed from this conversation is, I am a few years younger than you lot and some of the charecters you have mentioned I know as well as you guys. The Americans did some truly sureal sitcoms in th 60's and 70's, then it got weird and bland, Roseane was just awful, I don't know how I feel about Seinfeld, I think it was funny once but doesn't hold up for repeated veiwing. As for Friends what a bunch of self indulgent garbage. At the moment we here in Oz don't get too many American sitcoms, not like we use too. Actually the last great American sitcom, I can remember is The Drew Carey Show, it was off the wall and grotesque and had all the elements of fine classic American sitcoms including elements of Roseane. The Brits do irony better than anyone and they know how to laugh at themselves, then there is the double entendre which a lot of Brittish sitcoms are based upon inclding the ubiqutious "Are You Being Served" which was followed by "Allo Allo" I watched that the other night for the first time since I was a kid and god I thought this was awful. But if you stack up the Brittish sitcoms agains the Americans and I'm not biased here because I am from Oz (don't ask about Oz comedy. Our national broadcaster thinks a girl who kills fellows she has sex with and has to have sex with some gollum like creature to cure her is funny) the Brits have it over the Americans by a country mile. There was, Monty Python, The Goodies, Benny Hill, then there were the more normal ones, like Dad and Dave, Three's Company and this is my point The Americans are always taking Brittish comedy and turning it into American shows, which they did with Three's Company. In England it was a guy called Richard O'Sullivan and the Americans had John Ritter but the Brittish girls in that show were far hotter than Suzane Sommers who was in the American version. Recently you have taken The Office and the American version is just weird, it bares no similarity to Ricky Gervais's incarnation. But that is just my opinion. Neb

Old55 Fran Drescher in The Nanny I find this show designed with woman in mind, I find it hard to watch but thats just a personal thing and Mr Shefield was in Days of Our Lives playing a Spy and I can't get past that. I think he is (Mr.Shefield) a real lord or and I have just looked it up a Barron the 5th Shaughness his name is Charles Shaughnessy and he went to Eton, that is really sad. He is one of them!! Neb
