    News?

Firewire definitely seems to be fading. Most likely USB 3 will become widely available, but there is always someone (Intel in this case) looking to offer something new, in the endless search for planned obsolescence..er..
    ummm..I mean improved functionality.

The next update to the USB spec is 100w of power through the same cables we already use. Do you think this will change things? Powering interfaces entirely from the computer? Perfect for location recording if they do end up doing this.

My old MOTU Traveler FW was powered from the port, pretty cool.
The last time I looked for and bought a TI FW card I took notice that they are hard to locate. It caused me a little concern.

Isn't it Apogee who uses FW800? I like that idea. I have not heard if any audio interface manufacturers are adopting the usb 3.o standard. Usually you hear about a big meeting between the early adopters and the people who designed the standard to hash out the details if this is about to happen. Just wondered if any of you heard of one.

Obi those are cool possibilities, I want to keep on top of this in case the day comes I can no longer get a TI firewire card.

They are pretty cheap these days.  Buy a couple and put them somewhere safe for a rainy day.

USB3.0 is the third main revision of the Universal Serial Bus usual computer connection.
This is to meet this demand, adding a higher transfer rate to meet these new uses and facilities.

There were a lot of non-TI firewire cards to be had, however it took me some time to locate a true TI FW card. I ended up with a Lacie card which does very well. Even the sites advertising TI FW.....if I went to them, they would state on their website that they were sold out or out of stock. I spent a little more on the LaCie card. I know thew cheapies are plantiful and can be had for under $20.00.

Buying a few of them would make sense if the technology doesn't change in the next 10 years, but i haven't seen that.
