USB Device Disconnection Problem

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum so please go easy on me! I'm having a problem with X1 Producer. It keeps giving me this message:

"USB Audio Device

The above Audio/MIDI device was disconnected from your system. Would you like SONAR to reroute these outputs to an available device?
Clicking 'NO' allows SONAR to remember output settings to this device.
Note: If playback is in progress, clicking 'Yes' will stop the transport. "

And then I lose function of one or more of my USB devices.
USB devices I'm using are a Line 6 PocketPod, Focusrite VRM Box, Presonus Faderport, and an M-Audio Keystation 49.
I've looked in the device manager, and it shows that there is 500mA per port available, and I'm not even close to using that. I unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" box in Power Management.
I tried Microsoft's suggestion of creating a "DisableSelectiveSuspend" setting in the registry. Still no luck.
I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 3.

Any suggestions would be very welcome PLEASE!!!

you can rule out the fader port and controller AFA the audio error, I get the message if one of my audio devices becomes disconnected/malfunctions before I launch SOnar, or if it happens when sonar is playing..

1..are you using a USB powered hub?  check obvious connections and power

    2. do you have the latest drivers for all four devices?

    3. check usb cables for integrity and firm seating

It also could be related to having the midi devices plugged into a different USB port than where they were in the original project.  It may be looking for a device in 1 port that is now connected via another.  It's good practice to mark your ports to keep the connections in the same place.

a Line 6 PocketPod, Focusrite VRM Box

Sure sounds like a power-management issue...
Make sure these devices aren't connected to a USB-3 port.

I'd connect a single USB device (the one used as your primary audio interface)... and make sure playback works as expected.  Then connect the other USB units... one at a time

well I wont presume to know his set up but i would assume he is using the line 6 as an fx for his guitar

the VRM for monitoring his mixdown

the fader port for track and mix control no audio there

and the maudio for midi input, (i was too lazy to look it up and see if it has audio capabilities)

of course if he is using AISO then he can only use one device as his audio at a time, and if hes recording thru the POD then he has to be monitoring through it at the same time

but i also suspect a powered hub that may not be powered

Thank you all for the advice. I would have replied sooner but I don't have internet at my house and have to go to the library. My sound card is the M-Audio Delta1010. I don't have a USB hub. I'm using the ports that are connected to the motherboard. I'm using WDM, not the ASIO. I tried the MME and that just created more problems. It seems like the PocketPod has the most trouble connecting. I didn't see any updated drivers on the Vyzex site.

Ah, you didn't mention the Delta 1010 in your OP. So that is a total of FIVE usb devices. I would follows Jims advice and try your 1010 and nothing else for some torture tests and see if it plays OK. then try adding devices.

I was going to say You should  the Line 6 Gear Monkey Monkey and let it update yoor Pod drivers, but you have no internet at your house so  i suppose you have to D/L drivers elsewhere and bring them home ..

    I would suggest ASIO

Hey, Leadfoot.  I get this all the time, especailly with a mini Akai keyboard (LPK25) that sits on my desk for quick note entry.

If I figure anything out, I will post here.

One clue may be that the only logical place for me to plug this in is in the front of the rack-mount PC, but i think that is a differenst speed than the ones in the rear.  I will validate that with NirSoft's USBDeview freeware.

If you ignore the notification from SONAR does the device continue to work?
i.e.  Click NO in response to the prompt.

    Thank you konradh.
BTW musicman100 I didn't mention the Delta 1010 because it's a PCI device. But thank you for the suggestion.
Noel, sometimes it continues to work and sometimes it doesn't. I reinstalled the latest drivers for everything, and that's improved the problem. It still gives me the message, but I think everything is still working at this point.

Okay, I lied. It is not still working. I just noticed a hotfix (244) that is supposed to help the problem of the message popping up. I guess I'll try that and see if it helps anything.

I've seen this happen. Had a friend with an M Audio fast track Pro that kept getting "lost" by Sonar. He solved it by getting a powered USB hub and plugging it in the front of the tower. I would follow what Jim R is saying, it really does sound like a power issue with all the devices you have.

I just got my Faderport 8 and had the same problem.  I went to Presonus User Forums and found this fix:

Unplug the Faderport USB cable from computer.
    Turn off Faderport
    Restart computer
    Plug Faderport USB into computer
    Turn on Faderport

Faderport should connect and load UC.

Worked for me.  Hope this helps.

I had a similar issues some time ago and replaced all the drivers.  BUT first, I had to go through every possible place and delete any line mentioning the particular sound module etc.  It was tedious, but it solved my problem.  I believe that something I installed...maybe a vst I was trying or whatever screwed up the drivers.  Anyway it did solve my problem.  I would go to your sound module developers site and ask them specifically what to get rid of before you re-install the new drivers.  good luck.  It is a frustrating experience, but also a learning one, as most of these issues are.

I know the OP has Windows XP but like a few others here, I see this message frequently on my Windows 10 machine with the latest SONAR Platinum.  I have my power settings set to have USB power always on, CPU at 100% and hard drives always on.  When I see the message in question, it's because I was away from my computer for more than 30 minutes, and my monitor (screen) is set to power off after 30 minutes of non-use.  Of course this isn't an audio device, but it seems to be the only thing on my system that could trigger the message.

Assuming this is a desktop system as you mention a PCI device earlier in the thread.

Try adding an extra USB connector bracket. However, make sure internally to cable it to a connector on the motherboard that is not already associated with another USB output so that it doesn't have to share resources. Note I'm not referring to adding a PCI USB card (although thats an option), I just mean a USB socket on a bracket that you can cable directly into your motherboard. Obviously this won't work if you don't have any spare USB sockets inside your PC.

Most USB panels share power and bandwidth. Using the above method you would provide yourself with connections that are powered separately from your other devices and may cut down on low power issues when you have several devices connected.

    Hope this helps.

That message shows when another audio driver takes over the audio driver you where using. So to me this is simple. Your main audio is the Delta 1010 which you normally should use ASIO mode.
But because you also are using the line 6 you therefore use WDM mode which supports using 2 audio devices. Forget all those other devices, they are not audio and do not come into play.

SO this is a simple matter of losing the driver for the Delta.
If you not using it, disconnect the line 6 and switch to ASIO mode for the delta and see if this goes away.

I get this all the time with my Focusrite 18i20 but only when I set the latency buffer to the lowest possible value of 16. If I use anything higher than that like 32, 64, 128 etc I don't get that problem. It happens on multiple usb ports on my system that are 3.0 not 2.0, but I can't use the 2.0 ports on my machine because they're tied directly into the chipset, no internal hub.
