USB mike and Sonar

This is the reply I received from tech support:
Within SONAR X1, go to

<Edit | Preferences | Audio | Playback and Recording>:

Set your Driver Mode to MME-32 bit. If you do not see Driver Mode, make sure the box next to "Always open all devices" is checked. Click OK and restart the program. If prompted, allow the Wave Profiler to test your hardware.

<Edit | Preferences | Audio | Drivers Settings>:

Make sure your Internal card AND you USB microphone are selected under both inputs and outputs. If changes are made, click OK. Make sure one of your Internal card drivers is selected as Playback Timing master. Click OK. Restart the program if prompted. Allow Wave Profiler to test your hardware.

<Edit | Preferences | MIDI | Devices>:

You should now see "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth" under outputs. This is the general midi device that is included with your Windows system. Select this device and click OK.
I am happy to report that it works! Thanks to Cakewalk tech support for a prompt and valuable feedback

    Yep, unfortunately, you need to use the older MME drivers but it does work with USB mics.

    It's hard to deny the fact that USB mics just don't cut it in multitracking.

    Who would voluntarily use GS Wavetable Synth and ´MME nowadays !!??

    I think it's almost a crime that they advertise them for DAW work. For simple podcasting, ok, but not multitracking and soft synths. I know some are able to work with them, but obviously most are not.

    SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    I just picked up the Blue Yeti Pro to do some on location recording with my iPad..
    It is a USB mic with great digital converters (up to 192khz) as well as having stereo XLR and USB 2.0.

    I just installed their driver and pulled up X1 to test it out.
    It seems you cannot have existing ASIO drivers enabled (I am running an Echo AudioFire 2 in ASIO mode) so it is either one or the other but not a deal breaker as you can always go into the Audio preferences and change it out after you are done tracking with the Yeti.

    The Yeti Pro is USB 2.0 compliant so the latency is improved and you also get direct monitoring through the Yeti's own headphone output.

    So far it looks like the go to USB solution and the Pro part just adds more flexibility.

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=1618556 I wrote a guide ages ago.. what some people neglect to figure out is that if the playback card is rubbish and not up for the job... then that has an effect also.. a USB mic is ok IF you don't mind switching between MME and ASIO and don't record vocals etc all the time. ASIO is not an option as obv. it's only an input device .. asio4all is no solution to a decent asio based (with NATIVE drivers) playback device at last.

    The ASIO protocol itself does not allow more than one device at a time.  the exceptions are only where the hardware and drivers are designed to look like one device to ASIO (such as M-audio delta series, MOTU, etc).
