USB to Parallel Port MIDI converter

I think I'm at the end of the road with my AsRock PT880Pro-based motherboard. It isn't keeping up with the demands of the faster SATA2 drives and the dual video cards. All of the candidate motherboards for replacement are "legacy free", meaning there's no parallel port for my MOTU Micro-Express MIDI interface.

I'm just trying to avoid taking more "pioneer arrows" than I have to. These cable-based conversion products average about $15. The other PCI-e based products that do the same thing are about $55. Although I trust the PCI-e solution a bit more, I'm unwilling to sink half the cost of a new motherboard into a parallel port adapter. The internal hardware-based MIDI routing capabilities of the MOTU are central to the way I work, and I'd rather not ditch the Micro Express unless there is no other choice.

There are a few cable adapter products on the market that claim bi-directional LPT1-to-USB operation. Has anybody tried USB port with a parallel port MIDI product?

TIA

I have no experience with an LPT to USB adapter. However, you could probably add a PCI parallel adapter card to your computer for about the same price and have a pretty high confidence that it will work, versus an unknown. That's what I'd be inclined toward, anyway.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I had failed to mention in my original post that I have some constraints on PCI slot usage. Yes, the PCI-based parallel port adapters are about the same price or less than a USB cable-based product, but for me, PCI slots are precious: I still use two UAD-1 PCI cards. My other two PCI slots are filled with a TI firewire adapter, and a Gigabyte iRAM 3GB SSD. A motherboard with native firewire (e.g., AsRock X38TurboTwins) still would force me to consider sacrificing the SSD to get a parallel port. However, the possible concurrent use of a PCIe slot for parallel port operation would be acceptable at the right price point.

Thanks for thinking about the solution.
