UWP MIDI issues with windows creator update
Just installed windows 10 creator update. tried to use a yamaha MD-BT01 bluetooth adapter. adapter pairs (or seems to) but is not seen by SONAR. Any idea what happened? thanks Phil

Are you referring to the fall creators update or the earlier Windows creators update from this year? Did you have this working in SONAR earlier? Also please check that you have the MIDI driver mode set to UWP in SONAR.

Yes, the fall creators update. version 1709. Yes, my md-bt01 worked flawlessly in the previous version of windows. And yes, the mode is set to UWP. I think Microsoft broke something with 1709 and UWP.. Maybe you can get them to respond. Cheers PK

Are you using a custom driver from Yamaha or the built in support from Microsoft? If you have a custom driver uninstall it and see if it changes anything. Please submit a report through Windows feedback and post a link to the case. That way it can be tracked.

Sorry for the inconvenience, PK. We're working to narrow down what's up here. This isn't the first report of this, but at the same time, the problem does not appear to be universal. If you have time and interest in doing so, it would help us out a ton if you could grab logs: Edit: Links I post here get stripped. I'll send the link to Noel to post. Thanks. Pete Microsoft

Phil The link is to a blog post that has all the instructions. If you email me at pmbrown @ microsoft dot com I'll send you the full instructions. Noel, if you can post the link here for others to see, that would also be helpful. Pete

Here is the link about Reporting Problems With Feedback Hub that Pete is referring to. I highly recommend using it to report any windows related problems since they get escalated to the right people this way. Pete I think the forum strips links until some minimum post count to prevent spam :) Thanks for helping out here!

Hi, Pete. Thanks for engaging with us here. What is the scope of the problem(s) being reported? Are virtual MIDI cables being affected?

Error reports so far have been specific to the Yamaha Bluetooth MIDI dongle and UWP MIDI. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the only BLE device impacted, but that's what we're seeing right now. Classic MIDI and UWP MIDI over USB etc. seem unaffected. Whatever issue is here is likely in our BLE stack, not the MIDI stack. TBD. Pete

Hi Pete. just uploaded and updated windows this evening... Looks like some work was done on the bluetooth midi bug. i can pair the MD-bt01 now and it enumerates. i tried windsynthberry and cakewalk platinum. both can see the midi device under UWP but windsyntberry does not report any data being received and cakewalk hangs when I try to apply the choice of the MD-BT01 in the midi device list. Any idea what has to happen to get the apps working? did the API change at all? Do the authors of the s/w using UWP have to make any changes to get things working.. BTW I'm using the ASUS BT dongle to add BT to my desktop... Looks like we might be halfway there.. Cheers Phil
