Ultra Analog Synth=SPLAT slayer!

Woah. Thought I'd try out the UAS plugin. Dialed up a cool bass patch hit about 6 notes on my MIDI keyboard then, no sound, splat FREEZE, no hope of restarting, have to totally shut down computer and reboot. I've had no problems with the infamous Sonar "unresponsive" crashes that plagued me with X3 since I upgraded to SPLAT until I tried this instrument. I go to task manager and shut down everything (I think) that is related to Sonar, but it will not start again after these crashes and have to reboot. I tried it 3 times, same error every time. Guess I won't be trying that synth again....too bad.

I've had the same experience with AAS Player. Maybe you should report this to Cakewalk support team.

I recently got a new interface, the audient id22, but up till then I was using a quad capture and noticed that things had got a little unstable over the last couple of months. Not sure if the roland drivers are your problem but just giving you my experience.

FWIW - Unless Soundwise is also using a Roland it's probably something eles, but before switching over to the TASCAM interfaces, I was using an Octa-Capture and when running as ASIO, was becoming less reliable with new Windows updates. However, there are situations where I run two interfaces, one ASIO and one Windows drivers, when capturing audio from Hypercam. The Octa-Capture works fine with the Windows drivers. Try running it as WDM and see if that makes it work more reliably.

No Roland gear here. I use Focusrite and occasionally run Sonar with Windows drivers and built-in audio. Since AAS products are now a big part of SPlat, I hope bakers will do their best to cooperate with AAS developers and fix possible bugs that cause Sonar's crashes and freezes.

I have the same problem with AAS Ultra Analog synth, it crashed Sonar Splat several times.  I'm using RME Babyface with up to date drivers using ASIO.

Purrrfect Audio:  Intel i7 7700k (Kabylake), 32Gig DDR4/2133, Windows 10x64 Pro, USB RME Babyface, Sonar Platinum Current

Thanks for your input everyone. With the plethora of synth options these days, I can live without that one. I haven't reported my pleasure with the drastic reduction of crashes I've had since Splat, because as soon as you report that you've been crash free, you know what happens next. In X3 I spent hours and hours of detective work and support reports and driver updates etc., instead of making music. I now run multiple instances of amp sims and Spectrasonics and BFD among other synths without any issues at all until this one. Maybe they'll come up with a patch or something but until then, I'll move along and make music instead.

Disclaimer: I have no explanation for this and it's weird, but...

I had not had issues with the synth before, so I thought I'd see whether I could experience the same problem as y'all. I inserted the synth (MIDI + audio, standard instrument, not simple instrument) and although it didn't crash, it would not respond to MIDI or make any sounds. This meant the only song I could play would be John Cage's 4:33, so I tried replacing UAS2 with SI Bass to see if there was some routing issue or something, but the SI Bass worked fine. Then when I went to replace the SI Bass with UAS2, and SONAR crashed.

Out of curiosity I did the "old school" synth insertion method of creating a MIDI track, creating an audio track, and right-clicking in the audio track's FX bin to insert the UAS2.

It worked perfectly...but that's not the weird part. The truly weird part is that when doing exactly what I did before, it now works. Simple Instrument track...works. Regular one...works. Closed project and opened new one...works. Closed SONAR, re-opened...works.

I'm really curious whether someone who's having crashing problems and tries the old school insertion technique and then goes for the standard options ends up with the same results I did.

Didn't get a chance yet. I feel like the kid whose stuck his finger in the light socket 3 times, not motivated to try it again. I need to allocate a block of time to be able to catch up on my knitting while my computer reboots.....

Hard crash for me, too. I took a clean "basic" project and dragged the VST in. One note --> boom
A reboot, and I haven't seen the problem again. I submitted a crash report (or rather Sonar did). Not that the Crash Report shows up in my account, but they never do.

I've never had any issues with AAS stuff, I also run a Quad Capture. I have the full version of of the synth though, so haven't tried the Session version.

It's been crashing on me too.  Plays for a bit, then locks the computer for a reboot to continue.  I always almost insert as simple inst track.

No problems with the UAS session plugin here, though I've only tried SITs so far.    I can play notes from a controller or using the virtual keyboard, record, playback, etc..    I've also used the AAS Player many times in the past without any issues.

I use VA-2 (and VA-1 before it) as a go-to synth and I don't recall ever having a problem with it. I use a Roland UA-22 and I have frequent problems with it - it too often turns any piece into a facsimile of 4:33 with unlimited encores until reboot. Thanks for that drollery, Craig. Craig's experiment lends support to my feeling that the Bakers have messed up something in the area of soft synth insertion - Synth Rack for me is a registry-corrupting no-go area these days.

Same here. Have been using the Quad Capture for a couple weeks.....kind of wonky in Sonar for me......Bought the Audient....Waiting for it. I can use my Motif XS as a MIDI interface mLan or USB. ASIO I don't know if the Audient is ASIO or WDM.

Wow, that's a mighty fine looking interface. Waaaaay out of my budget range. Doesn't look like it has co-ax SPDIF either, which I need for the dry outs on my POD HD pro. My Quad used to be constant problems with Sonar X series, but since SPLAT, it's been pretty darn stable, except when I tried that synth.

I use AAS synths including UA w quad capture as synth track or `old school` method. I did upgrade to full version of all of them around same time I went X3 to SPLAT. Don`t recall ever having a prob w any of them.
