Un-Stable Living Room 'N Slide Show - Where Bapu Will Sleep I still hate editing video

I call this fine peice of art "Un-Stable Living Room 'N Slide Show" -- I am Learning New Software - Slip and slide editing my bad singing to a pre-recording track - then a slide show -

I am getting the hang of it - it was recording on a web cam - cuz sony vegas dont like my camcord

Now perhaps I could actually start on my video project now that I know the program a bit better - I still hate editing video though

Notice the couch in the video ?

thats Bapu's couch when he comes to Chicago in May

Poor guy

    I love it.

Dora seems like a great assistant engineer... maybe she should edit the video?

I also see that Lew the Fish is apparently a LOT smaller than you indicated previously. Apparently Lew has some sisters... why did you keep that a secret?

So I have to ask... what's your actual goal with your video?

There are a few video folks here who might be able to help.

What Camcorder are you having trouble with?

    best regards,
    mike

I actually think it was Lew that shot the video.

And Dora was not to keen on getting near Lew. Can you blame her?

So I have to ask... what's your actual goal with your video?

takelessons.com asked all of us to do a introductory video and a lessons video to help us get more private students .... I saw some of the videos and most were OK - but not slick - so I am trying to figure out how to make a fancy slick intro video - perhaps with some pre-recorded music - but synced really well - not live to make the audio quailty not so bad -

I dunno - trying to come up with ideas -

the camera I used was a web cam

my cam cord that has issues with rendering video that sony vegas   has is an insigma ns-dv720p

when I import video from the camera - it shows a shaky blurred video and no audio - and this after I downloaded the codec for it - before the codec - i wouldn't import it

the 2nd project I am going to do -- we are recording a worship team CD at my place for the church - over 25 musicians will be in and out of here laying down there tracks over the next two months -

I want to take little clips of every one working and recording - and make a music video out of it with one of the songs from the completed CD - for the church

    hows that mike?

I dig the White Stripes tune Mooch and not that I'm brown-nosin' or nothing but you don't look like you've aged one day from the pic with your cousin till now.

Oh, and you might want to keep a count of your fish while Bapu is there. He may need a mid-night snack one night.

    I'm just sayn', that's all.

    Hi Mooch,

I just did a search for that Cameras native CODEC and it seems like it has been frustrating for everyone.

This link to Insignia's own support site:

    http://community.insignia...-Movie-Maker/td-p/4926

Will show you that in fact Insignias own support doesn't really know what CODEC the camera is running. It seems evident that Insignia buys and sells these with no idea what it is.

They describe the CODEC as "Dix/X like". Div/X is popular CODEC in Europe and has been adopted by many game manufacturers for use with their videos that play on application launch. I think this is because Div/X works well and it is either a cheap or free license.

When you see mention of .AVI or .Mov these are wrapper containers that can work with many CODECs.

When you see mention of H.264 especially in that thread I linked to... it is a definition of a small family of CODECs. Many people speak of a H.264 CODEC, but they are mistakenly thinking within the context of what they are using and not necessarily acknowledging the fact that various implementations of H.264 are dissimilar.

Having said all that it is routine for most footage shot on a video camera to be converted to some other CODEC for editing. It usually an up-convert, but if you have a top of the line pro camera it may be a down convert.

Your camera shoots to a highly compressed format that is CPU hungry. When you go to edit it, it will be problematic because the compression is a hindrance. Furthermore it is evident that the CODEC is not easily recognized by many edit applications.

So, you need to find a way to convert to an easy to edit CODEC for Vegas.

I really dislike the fact that Insignia's support says "try a few CODEC packs"... that is just a ridiculous response. They also seem to admit that the bundled software doesn't actually function with the CODEC. That's UGLY.

You are going to have to figure out a work flow that lets you up-convert to something that works in Vegas.

I had hoped to use my familiarity with the jargon to find an easy work flow for you... but there isn't one... so you are going to have to experiment.

Read that link and try a few of the suggestions and let us know how it is working out.

FWIW, Most seasoned video people shop for cameras with the CODEC in mind. It's a very important first step when selecting a camera. So this is the primary reason you are facing the frustration that others seem to avoid.

The CODEC I use for my Canon HDSLR makes it possible for me to edit video on my laptop. The native CODEC is unusable in editing unless you have a super computer and run a CUDA card.

Re Music video for church....the easiest way to make a video with an need for sync is to start AFTER the song s recorded. Then you use the song as the reference while taping people performing along with it.

If you start with a click track and tape while you produce the song it can work.

It will be LOADS of work, but it seems like a good project.

     Don't give up.

    best regards,
    mike

Above is what kerry My cousin as she looks today as opposed to the 1993 pic - she is a pretty lady -- sorry guys - she is married and the guy has cash he owns two successful night clubs - one in Chicago and one in the burbs -   we grew up together - her dad - who is of course my uncle - has cancer and is in the middle of the pic - and thats my second cousin on the right -  this was taken a few weeks ago and unfortauntly my uncle doesnt have too much time left - if the current chemo works maybe 2 years -- if the current chemo doesnt work - just months - I've had a couple of close people to me get sick from cancer the last few years and then the people on this forum
I am sick of hearing about cancer and I get angry when I hear about it - being an ex smoker I think is in part why I worry

anyway - seeing the recent pic of my cousin made me think of all that

you really dont all want to see a recent pic of me ..... really

Hi Mooch, I use Premiere but one of the cool things about Final Cut is the Pro Res built in converter. It is scalable and helpful at cutting down time.

The conversion process is always a time hassle... and the effect is that it should encourage you to be more selective with what you bring on to your computer.

We log clips and attempt to throw out unusable stuff before we do much work.

Some conversions are faster than others so sometimes I'll import everything letting the computer work overnight other times I'll be very specific and just bring in 3 or 4 minutes of footage to cover a 30 second final output.

    Have fun!

BTW My wife's Uncle George is flying down from Mundaline to visit tomorrow... I'm gonna ask him if he knows "mooch".

    best regards,
    mike
