Unable to freeze synth

I got 2 instances of Kontakt 5 in the project. I can freeze one just fine, yet I cannot freeze the other Kontakt instance (which contains several synths in the rack, but only 2 are fed by unmuted MIDI tracks).

I can see in the background that the wave file is written to the audio directory, but when the first of two tracks is bounced, freezing just stops and reverts to the unfrozen state (with the wave file being deleted again). Anybody seen that before ...??? Something odd between Sonar and Alicia's Keys or Heavyocity going on ...

I tried exporting those 2 tracks with an interesting result: Alicia's Key exports fine, Heavyocity yields a silent track (exported with all options off to just export the synth but not FX etc.) ... yet when I bounce the entire mix, the Heavyocity synth is in there ...

(this is X3c, BTW, but also happened in X3b)

I have only Kontakt 5 Player (5.3.0). It's freezing okay with Alicia's Keys. That's pretty much all I use it for, so I haven't tried a multi-out setup.
